'Maybe..' Y/n looked around at the fully formed ice mirrors surrounding her. '..rushing without thinking things through was not a good idea.' In other scenarios Y/n would have preferred to wait and study the opponent first and wait for an opening, but that wasn't an option anymore .Y/n looked down at the glaring Uchiha, who she had still to let go off his clothe.
Sasuke tugged away from her hold not happy with the treatment. "What are you doing here?" Y/n raised an eyebrow. 'This is what I get for trying to save him.' Sasuke stood up and seemed to be searching for someone before following with "Where is Naruto?" His eyes were now focused at his opponent.
"Well, I decided to come and help Tazuna like always, but.." Y/n took her daggers out too. ".. I saw a scaredy cat that wasn't moving away from danger." Y/n could clearly see annoyance on Sasuke's face. "So I thought to be nice and carry it away." Sasuke's eyebrow twitched. "As you can see it didn't work." Sasuke frowned when Y/n sigh in disappointment. He clearly needed help, but his pride will never let him say it out loud. "And, Naruto.." Y/n paused. She couldn't just say that he went after the man Gotou sent to attack Tazuna's home. That would cause unnecessary panic. She believed Naruto could handle them.".. had something.." Y/n trailed off as her eyes caught the masked-nin enter a mirror. "..to deal with." was said almost in a whisper as she left in awe. It was an interesting jutsu. 'To bad he is the enemy.' Somewhere on the space between the mirrors, Y/n saw a panicked Kakashi jumping towards them, only to be stopped by Zabuza.
"Sasuke.." Y/n called, without taking her eyes from the enemy. The said Uchiha hummed, his way of saying he was listening. "Cover my back." They needed to cover each others backs and find out how the jutsu worked. Sasuke nodded, understanding what she was getting at, but their opponent understood that too.
Haku jumped out off the mirror, without allowing Sasuke to take Y/n's side and attacked with his needles. Y/n and Sasuke to jump away. "I'll show you my real speed." Haku stated in a challenging voice. Y/n raised an eyebrow. She didn't understand what he meant with that, but pushed her curiosity away as a shower of needles were send towards her in full speed. 'If it's important, I will find out.' Y/n mentally shrugged as her daggers met the flying object with a click sound.
The attacks kept coming on the same pattern. Haku would come out off a mirror throw needles at Y/n, attack Sasuke and then enter another mirror and the routine was repeated over and over. The masked-nin didn't use any other jutsu on the meantime. So it was fair to assume that this was the purpose of the mirrors: to trap the enemy. What Y/n wanted to figure out now was how to beat it or at least find a way out. Y/n looked at Sasuke from the corner of her eyes and understood that this attacks should come to an end.
Putting her daggers on her belt, Y/n quickly linked her fingers together. The plan was simple: creating a magnetic field around herself caused the needles to fall on the ground. Then she used chakra threads to connect her fingers with the fallen needles and directed the said needles to attack Haku . Y/n smirked as Haku retreated inside one of the mirrors, but not before cutting the chakra strings off. 'He is smart!' Y/n mused.
"You alive there?" Y/n asked as she looked at the fallen teammate. Sasuke looked terrible. His clothes were torn and covered on his own blood that came out from the nasty scratches. Y/n, herself, couldn't complain. She did have some scratches, but not as deep and painful looking as Sasuke's. 'Just what..' "What did you do to make him so angry?" Y/n asked as Sasuke was struggling to set up. "You weren't that dumb to challenge an unknown opponent with unknown ability, right?" The silence from the Uchiha's end confirmed her assumption to be right. It didn't make her feel any better, in contrary she was a little disappointed .Y/n could expect something so irresistible from Naruto, but not Sasuke.
While their short conversation came to an end Haku was ready to attack again. Y/n positioned herself in front of Sasuke as soon as she felt the shift on the atmosphere. Before he fully got out of the mirror, a kunai that was thrown from someone outside the ice mirrors cage causing Haku to stop. The masked-nin caught the kunai without much trouble. What he didn't expect was the shuriken that was coming for his throat, forcing him to jump out off the mirror on the ground.
Everyone attention turned towards the sound of smoke bombs going off. Y/n sigh when she saw the mop of blonde hair from the clearing smoke. "UZUMAKI NARUTO!" Naruto introduced himself. 'At least he is safe.' But.. "HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!" ..That whole scene was not necessary. "NOW THAT I AM HERE EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE!" Y/n cursed under her breath. "The main character of a story usually shows up in this kind of situation and instantly kicks the enemy's ass!" Y/n might a little fault at this. She meant to encouraged him to go save Inari when she said "Go be a hero!". He needed to be a hero for Inari, to brighten the poor boy day a little bit, not this. The situation they were is was serious for Naruto to act so carelessly. And despite all that Y/n could only watch him with soft eyes.
Zabuza on the other hand couldn't stand the hero crap. Y/n almost jumped to were Naruto was to help, when Zabuza throw some shurikens towards him, but composed herself. If she moved, Sasuke would be exposed and Haku most likely not let her out. Y/n had to trust on Naruto and her sensei if things went to dangerous for him to handle To Y/n's surprise, Haku was the one to stop the shurikens with his needles.
"Haku, what is this?" Zabuza asked. Y/n's attention turned to Haku, but only after she examined Naruto for any injury. After all everyone wanted to know the answer to that question.
"Zabuza-san.." He spoke into a respectful manner. "These kids, let me fight them my way." Y/n was grateful. Even with Kakashi looking after Naruto, Y/n doubted she could be calm about his safety.
"So you don't want me to interfere, Haku?" Y/n looked at were Zabuza and Kakashi were standing and had to do a double take and raised an eyebrow. They hadn't moved from were Y/n saw them last. They didn't have any injuries to suggest any struggle and weren't holding any weapons. The fact that the jounins weren't fighting was weird. 'What are they waiting for, an invitation?' Y/n deadpanned. "You are so soft.." Zabuza said. Haku wasn't going easy on them, but not all out either .Someone who could cause an temporary death knew the autonomy of the human body pretty well and directing the attack at Sasuke's and her vital points was child's play, but he didn't. 'So his plan is to keep us here until the job is done.' Y/n didn't like the idea. She refused sat down and do nothing. 'Lets hope Naruto doesn't do something stupid.'
"Hey! I come to save you!" Y/n looked down. Her eyes widen as she saw Naruto knelt down beside a kneeling Sasuke. '..Like that..'
"You moron! If you are a shinobi use your head!" Y/n just watched Sasuke rant on the side. "Why did you come inside the mirrors!? Damn it!! I don't care anymore!! You are an idiot!" Y/n let out a sigh.
"What did you say? I came here to save you and this is what I get?" Naruto looked at Y/n for some kind of support. 'How can I say no to those puppy eyes?' Or an opportunity to tease Sasuke.
"You did ask for him.." Y/n said, smugly looking at Sasuke. ".. And now here you have him. " Sasuke narrowed his eyes at her.
"Really?!" Naruto asked her, only to get a nod of confirmation from his friend. "Were you worried about me teme?"
"No!" Sasuke denied, still glaring.
"But, Sasuke." Sasuke turned his head at Y/n, his glare more heated. "I clearly remember you asking .."
"Shut up!" The Uchiha hissed. Y/n raised her hands in surrender.
"Oi! Don't speak to Y/n like that, teme!" Naruto scolded. Sasuke fired back with a "Shut up, dobe!" Y/n snorted at the scene and left the two kids finish their bantering on their own and looked at their opponent. Her eyes widen.
"GET UP, GUYS!" Y/n warned, their little fun was over. Both boys jumped up, startled. The three of them watched the masked-nin enter a mirror. They were three verses one now, but still in disadvantage.
A moment they were facing Haku until they weren't anymore. "Over here." Haku had moved behind them, a new scratch decorated Sasuke's face and it seems to anger the Uchiha.
"What's going on here?" Naruto asked alerted.
"He can jump from a mirror to another." Y/n explained. Sasuke had his head together. "Sasuke!" He didn't listen, taking a deep and firing the "Fireball no jutsu" at the enemy. Y/n crossed her fingers hoping it would work. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Y/n watched as the smoke clear with their opponent and the mirror were untouched. "It didn't do anything!" Naruto said annoyed. Y/n 's eyebrows were furrowed as she frowned. If she thought succeeding an attack at the mirrors would shatter them crossed her mind at one point, now it was pointless .
"Damn it!" Sasuke cursed.
"You can't melted this ice with that level of fire." Y/n's eyes widen at Haku's words , another idea crossed her mind, red flags along with it.
Haku attacked them again. "He is fast!" Y/n hissed as a new scratch formed on her arm and leg. That was the first time he had attacked Y/n by himself. "Where's the real one?" Naruto said in between clutched teeth looking around at the reflections.
"Trying to follow me with your eyes is impossible. You will never be able to catch me." Haku said, railing Naruto up.
"Kage Bushin no jutsu!" The blonde called. Y/n sigh, activating her sensory skill and caught the real Naruto by the black of his orange jacket, while his clones proceeded to attack. Naruto paled as he watched his clones being easy defeated.
"He is not using a clone jutsu, Naruto." Y/n explained and let go of his jacket.
"This jutsu uses the mirrors reflection to transport me." Y/n ears pitched up at the explanation. "From my point of view you seem to be moving in slow motion." The corner of Y/n's lips lifted just a bit. 'I only need to make you unable to move then~'
"So what?" Naruto question. "I can't die here I have a dream to fulfill." Y/n smiled at his determination. It woke up her fighting spirit more.
"Becoming a true shinobi is difficult for me.." Haku said in a said voice. "If possible, I don't want to have to kill you. Nor want for you to kill me." It made sense for Y/n now. 'So that's why he didn't kill Naruto in the forest.' "But if you come at me.." His aura become threatening. "I can destroy my kind heart with a blade and become a true shinobi." Haku sounded like Zabuza when he talked like that and Y/n didn't like it. "This bridge is the place where we fight to defend our dreams. Me for my dream and you for your dreams. So please don't hate me." That last sentence made Y/n feel bad. She didn't hate him and admitted he had a great technique. Though a part of her said that he didn't wanted to do what he was doing. "I want to protect someone precious to me. To work for that person. To fight for that person. To make that person's dream come true." It sounded like he was expressing his devotion, but Y/n picked up something else too. Haku wanted to be accepted, to have a place to belong.. "This is my dream. For it, I can become a shinobi. I can kill you." .. and he was ready to kill to keep that.
"I can do the same you know." Y/n spoke full confidence. Sasuke and Naruto turned to look at her. "I have been trained to do so." She hadn't killed a human being before.. "Like Zabuza said.." Her eyes shone dangerously. "..kill or be killed right." .. and Y/n wasn't going to start with Haku. Her plan was for Haku to attack her directly. "I have a dream too." Y/n licked her upper lips. "But you two.." Y/n shifted her gaze to Zabuza, who was looking at Kakashi's sharingan, back to Haku "...are in the way." The mention of Zabuza seems to snap Haku.
Needles flown towards Naruto and Sasuke, who dodged it, but Y/n didn't move, using the magnetic field to keep the needles away. A smirk made Y/n's lips as she sensed Haku jump towards her. Y/n shifted her hand sign, quickly taking the daggers in hand. Needle meet dagger.
"Caught you!" Y/n's eyes were shining with mischief and partly from the electricity sparks going through Haku's arms. To her disappointment Haku moved away faster then Y/n wanted, but with numb arms nonetheless, moving inside the safety off his mirrors.
"Sweet!" Naruto cheered. "Can you so that again, Y/n?" He asked with a big smile on his face. "I can knock him down while you do that.. thing." Y/n shook her head. While his plan would work in another situation, she doubted Haku would fall for it twice.
"Sasuke!" The Uchiha boy hummed. "I need you and Naruto distract him for while." Y/n sat down into a meditation position. "Don't let him get close to me." Sasuke seemed sceptical and Y/n didn't blame him. She wasn't certain she was going to pull this off. In theory it did, but Y/n had never trained with it before and there was the disadvantage off time. She had managed to temporarily paralyze Haku's hands, but for not long. He was going to be ready for action faster than Y/n wished.
"Are you sure it's gone work?" To her surprise Naruto asked. He wasn't looking at her, a smile was in his lips as he was looking at their opponent.
"It's worth a try." Y/n responded. Sasuke frowned with his eyebrows furrowed, but agreed with a seemingly forced "Fine!" but that was all Y/n needed to close her eyes.
Her father was probably screaming inside his grave.
