Chapter 31

With the help of the villagers they were brought at Tazuna’s house to rest and heal. The village doctor hadn’t offered his assistance in attending their wounds, but they had politely declined. Just imagine an unknown civilian approach carelessly close to paranoid ninjas, when said shinobi had been fighting and were on their vulnerable mentally an physically state. It didn’t, nor was it a good idea. So, Y/n took this duty upon herself.

Naruto and Sakura were the one that didn’t have any injuries. Nine tail had healed Naruto’s injuries. As much as Y/n didn’t want Naruto to be in pain, the image off the nine tail taking over him still hunted her. As for Sakura. Well she didn’t participate in any off the fights directly to take any damages in the first place.

Sasuke had pain which caused difficulty in mobility. All because of the state he was forced to go in. Y/n had pulled the needles gently off of him before the villagers carried him at Tazuna’s, so, what was left to do to him was bandage his scratches. Not wanting to waste time on little things and focus on the serious stuff, Y/n started to order Sakura and Naruto around.

Naruto was task to help Sasuke clean up, while Sakura boiled some medical up. After Sasuke was done they would reverse their roles. Sakura would bandage Sasuke cause Y/n couldn’t trust Naruto not to tightened the bandages to much or let them loose then necessary.

In the meantime Naruto world be Y/n’s errant boy, because what was meant to be a serious stuff was her sensei. He had a kunai wound on his palm that wasn’t that much off concerning, but the sword gash on his chest was. It wasn’t that deep as to damage any vital organ, but it was deep enough to need stitches. Y/n had no experience on that except from sewing her clothes. She cursed under her breath for not learning healing jutsu and had proceeded to tell Naruto to find a needle and some other stuff that were needed.

When the procedure had finished, Y/n tossed the bloodied rubber gloves on the bowl with bloodied water and in the same condition towel. Kakashi was laid on his futon and given a chakra pill, because he had challenged his chakra storage again, but not as bad as the first time against the mist-nin. Y/n glanced at the resting Uchiha. He had been lucky not to run into chakra exhaustion or he would have been in a lot more pain and a high fever to bot.

Y/n’s musical pain and sore throat were mainly her own fault. All the struggle to move and speak with needles piercing through had brought to this condition. Y/n made her way to the bathroom. Taking a bath, while massaging her muscles and drinking some medical tea would bring her to shape.

When night came Y/n had trouble to fall asleep and that wasn’t because of any physical discomfort, but her brain wouldn’t shut down. The event off the day went through her eyes like a movie. All the things she could have done better. All the ‘what if's' were causing her a headache.

With a frown she turned to her left. The view off the ceiling was placed with her sleeping friend. Naruto was sleeping at his own futon that night. Kakashi had prohibited him to sleep on her futon until she recovered. Naruto’s arms and legs were spread freely with his covers covering only a part of his belly and a leg with his toes peeking outside.

Naruto was so adorable, Y/n couldn't help but giggle. Y/n's eyes widen before softening as she heard her name incoherently leaving Naruto's mouth. Her hand reached his closest one and held it gently. There was something special about him that calm her. Made her smile and washed her doubts for the past and worries for the future away.

Smiling, Y/n closed her eyes. 'I am going to wake up with him in my futon, aren't I?' And with that predicament Y/n felt asleep. Feeling warm and safe.

Y/n woke up by a loud :"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING, NARUTO?" Y/n groaned. 'It's to early for this..' she tried to forget about the annoying voice she heard and struggled close to the warmth that felt so familiar. "DIDN'T YOU HEAR WHAT KAKASHI-SENSE SAID YESTERDAY?" Y/n heard a shushing noise that came from the person hugging her. There was a hand on her back rubbing on a way to lull her to sleep, but it was already to late. "DON'T HUSH ME! HURRY UP AND.." A flying kunai interrupted the pink haired yelling had stopped, looking at Y/n with wide eyes.

Y/n was sitting on her bed, eyes zeroed at Sakura, a dark shadow surrounding her. Sakura gulped and kept her mouth sealed.

“No need to murder your teammates..” Kakashi, who had been sipping his tea through the unnecessary noise spoke. “.. or is there.” He  looked at Y/n with his uncovered eye. The red haired scoffed, but shook her head. ‘Sometimes I wish she wasn’t my teammate.’

With her sleep out off  the window, Y/n patted Naruto on the head with a tired “morning” and dragged her feet towards the bathroom, not ready yet to start the day.

The rest of the morning was spent with Inari , proudly, telling them the story of how he made the villagers follow him to the battlefield. Tazuna on the other hand, joyfully, stated that the  employees that had left wanted to join the bridge building again, together with some other volunteers from the village. Y/n was extremely happy of how good things went for this family and this village.

After the breakfast Tazuna guided Kakashi, Y/n and Naruto at the forest. Two newly made graves awaited them, Zabuza’s and Haku’s. Their bodies were washed and their clothes were sewed by the ladies of the village. Their graves were opened next to each other. “Like their souls..” Y/n said quality. “.. their physical bodies will to rest next to each other.” Kakashi nodded beside her. Naruto teary nodded too, taking a hold of her hand on his, an action that didn’t surprise Y/n. Her thumb run circles on the back of his hand, while they watched two man cover the grave with Zabuza’s and Haku's coffins inside.

The days after the funeral were spent resting and as soon as they were all in their feet, Kakashi did a patrol around the land of wave. Y/n was a little salty about not knowing that Kakashi summons were nin-Ken, but she had the opportunity to take her annoyance on the thugs that were still around.

Finding Gatou’s headquarters was a nice surprise. They took it and gave whatever was there to the villagers. Y/n joked about being Robin hood, one of her favourite stories from her father she shared with the children of the village.

When they joined Tazuna on the bridge building site, It had been a pleasant surprise to find it full of working civilian. Inspired by the villagers spirit Y/n insisted to help. She took it upon herself to order Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura, who despite from her complaints, still obeyed Y/n’s demands. Of course they would not be on the building team, that was left to the professionals. Their job was to carry materials and tools that were necessary around.

It wasn’t ninja training, but it was a good exercise.

The bridge building went smoothly. Two weeks after the fight and the bridge was completed.        “Is it true you are leaving?” One off the kids that were surrounding Y/n asked. The red haired sigh. They were on the bridge. Tazuna was doing the final check up before inaugurating it tomorrow.

“Yes, kiddos.” Y/n confirmed, ruffling the haired of the one that asked. They had joined after a while. Their job was to bring the adults lunch, but as time past they started to be intrigued to help. Tazuna was more then happy to teach the new generation of builders.“ With the finish of the construction, my mission is over.” Some of them started to sob and Y/n sigh. ‘Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to get so close to them.’ Y/n was the one to explain the thing they couldn’t comprehend, explaining in a way that was easy for their brain to absorb. Every lunch break they would surround her and Y/n would tell them stories her dad had told her or even her pranks with Naruto. As a result they were attached to her more than Y/n intended. “Now , now..” her voice was tender. “That don’t mean we will never meet again.” Some of them looked at her hopefully.

“Really?!” One of them asked. Y/n nodded.

“The world is big, but not big enough.” Y/n smiled at them. “If I have a mission nearby,..” Y/n raised her hand, standing as straight as she could. Her other hand behind her back with her eyes closed. “..I promise to pay a visit.” Y/n finished in one breath. “If you will have me?” The children cheered and pulled her on a group hug. It would have been fun, if they weren’t this many and almost crushing her. “Alright! Enough with hugs for today.” Y/n acted like she was panting. “Go bother the old man now, my minions.” Y/n waved them off. She couldn’t help but smile as they rush towards Tazuna, Naruto and Inari. The boy had developed a fascination towards her knucklehead  friend.

Y/n turned around and started walking towards Tazuna’s house. Her sensei had said that he would write his report and Y/n wanted him to leave some things out off it.

As expected Kakashi-sense was writing on a scroll. Y/n looked around, Sasuke and Sakura were nowhere to be found. “Where is our favourite couple?” Y/n asked sarcastically.

“Helping Tsunami grocery shopping.” Y/n snorted at his answer. She could imagine the scowl on Sasuke’s face. During his healing period and even after Sakura refused to move out of his side and Y/n didn’t do nothing to ease his suffering. Why would she? Y/n was having the time of her life, teasing them was the best entertainment Y/n could get.

“Good!” Kakashi raised an eyebrow. Their absence was for the best. “Are you going to include my newfound Kekkei Genkai on the report?” Kakashi stopped writing.

{\Flashback|}
It had started as a fun night. Only the ninjas were on the room as the owner had gone to sleep. Things were quite, her teammates getting ready for bed, when Y/n felt Sasuke’s glare on her. Y/n had thought it was because she assigned Sakura to take care of him.

“Whatever you are mad at me..” Y/n didn’t turn to look at him. “.. I don’t regret nothing.” Y/n finished, chuckling a bit.

“Your eyes turned red.” His statement made her head his way.

“WHAT?!!” Sasuke kept his eyes narrowed at her. “Sasuke..” Y/n blinked, her brain didn’t make sense off what he was saying. “.. did you hit your head during the fight..” Y/n blinked. “..when I wasn’t looking?” Y/n asked. Sasuke frowned his eyebrows. His lips parted to object, but Naruto bit him to it.

“No, he didn’t.” Naruto interfered.

“What do you mean with ‘wasn’t looked’?” Kakashi join with a raised eyebrow.

Y/n groaned. “Not now sensei.” She  then turned to Naruto. “Then, how do you explain what he is SAYing?” Y/n asked.

“Well, your eyes were red..I mean part red.. Only around the black dot.” Naruto struggled to describe. All of them sweatdropped.

“And when did that happened?” Y/n asked dryly.

“When you opened your eyes, after you medi-di..” He struggled with the word.. ”..mediated.”.. and still said it wrong. A snort escaped her throat. She could help it, because Naruto was grinning like he said it right

“Meditated.” Sasuke corrected, Naruto’s grin fell and he sulked on his futon.

“Why would you meditate on the middle of the fight?” Sakura nodded at Kakashi’s question. Sakura had kept quiet because she had no idea of what they were talking.

“Sage mode.” Y/n simply answered to Kakashi and then turned to Sasuke. “Explain what you saw!” she, practically, ordered.

Sasuke frowned. “Your iris had two colours when you opened them.” His eyes narrowed as he explained further. “The most noticeable was the red surround the pupil,..” his hands clenched in tight fist, before relaxing again. “..but there was a shade of indigo further form it.” All eyes were on her. Y/n was founding a way to explain, but couldn’t think nothing of it.

“A knew Kekkei Genkai perhaps.” Y/n turned to Kakashi, blinking. “You did enter sage mode right?” Y/n mutely nodded. “I don’t know a lot about it..” Kakashi placed his hand on his chin. “.. but there is a possibility it triggered the Uchiha blood in you.” Y/n could feel the confusion from Sasuke from were she stood. “Not to inherit sharingan, but create something greater.” Y/n stared into nothing.

“What does he mean by Uchiha blood?!” Sasuke asked. Y/n sigh.

“It’s complicated.” Y/n cut it short, but Sasuke wasn’t having it.

“I want to hear it.” Sasuke insisted.

“Hey!” Naruto intervened. “If Y/n doesn’t want to talk about it then she doesn’t have to talk about it.” Y/n hadn’t told Naruto about it. She just found it all unnecessary. Sasuke was about to say something back, but Y/n couldn’t bear a bickering in her confused state.

“Well..” Y/n started, making herself comfortable on the ground. “ My grandfather was an Uchiha. He met a girl in one of his mission, my grandmother, and fell in love with her.” Y/n took  a deep breath. That was the good part. “His family objected because she was from a land that Hidden in the Leaf wasn’t in good terms with. So they decided to engage him with a princess. While they were organising a wedding, he married my grandmother.” Y/n smirked as Sasuke looked like his brain was frying from all the information. While Sakura found it romantic. “That is when they disowned him.” He hadn’t left the village. He and his wife had built a small house, the same that Y/n had grown up to, deep into the forest. Not many knew about it and Y/n wasn’t really to found out. “They had asked him back, when my mother was born. And when she didn’t manifested sharingan, they shut the door right on their face.” Sasuke was looking at the ground with furrowed eyebrows. “I don’t blame you for what happened. I'd be an idiot if I did.” Y/n smile at the wide eyed Uchiha. Y/n laid on her bed. “I never knew them anyway. My grandfather died before I was born and my grandmother went to her village when I was born.” Mainly because she blamed Y/n for her mother death.

There was a moment of silence when Kakashi spoke. “So who taught you Sage mode.” Y/n stood up from her futon laughing sheepishly.

“That’s, actually a funny story sensei..” story cut short. Kakashi, much like her father, had prohibited her to use sage mode without proper teaching.
 {\End off flashback|}

“No!” Kakashi answered. “I am not going to write about the nine tail in the report either.” He started writing again. “But I am going to inform the Hokage about it.” Y/n nodded. If it was in the report everyone could read it and those were stuff some people didn’t need to know.

“Y/n!” Naruto’s voice was heard from the door. “Where did you disappeared too?” Inari and Tazuna had followed entered after him. They had met with Tsunami, Sasuke and Sakura on the way. The house was filled with their talks and laughs as they eat around the table.

The breakfast on the other day was the opposite. It was like Inari was about to cry. No conversation was made whatever and Y/n felt a bit uncomfortable on her seat.

When they walked out, Y/n took a deep breath. They had decided to visit Zabuza’s and Haku’s grave before they left. Y/n had seen some flowers on the way. Naruto had understood her intentions and together with her picked some up too.

Y/n never understood leaving food on top of a grave, because they were dead with no physical body to need real food, but Sakura had other benefits and had brought two plates. Naruto, that apparently had the same thoughts as Y/n, attempted to take some food as he let the flowers down.

“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?” Sakura slapped his hand. “That’s bad karma.” Y/n rolled her eyes and placed her own flowers at Zabuza’s grave.

“Kakashi-sense!” Instead of bickering with Sakura, Naruto called Kakashi with a serious voice. Their sensei hemmed, urging him to continue. “Were those two correct about ninja?” Y/n waited for Kakashi’s answer. She had long ago decided her own way of ninja.

“A shinobi isn’t suppose to persuade his own goals. Becoming the country's tool is most important thing..” Y/n wanted to laugh. This were what they taught in the academy and what they learned on books, but those weren’t his own beliefs. “That’s the same for the Leaf Village.” Y/n looked amused at her sensei. ‘Is this some weird test of his?’

“Is that what means to be a true ninja?” Naruto looked at their graves. “You know what?!” Y/n grinned. “I don’t like it.” Y/n was so proud of him.

“You believe that too?” Sasuke asked Kakashi. Which was a dumb question. Kakashi had clearly valued their lives more than a mission. It was clear in his eyes, when he told them to escape the first time they encountered Zabuza.

“Well, each ninja and every ninja has to live with that issue. Just like Zabuza.” Y/n rolled her eyes.

“Ok , I just decided. I am going TO BE A NINJA MY OWN WAY!” Naruto proudly declared. Y/n gave him a thumbs up as he proudly marched towards the village. Sasuke followed, lost in his thoughts. Sakura followed Sasuke.

“Good job sensei!” Y/n nudged Kakashi, who was looking at his students like a proud parent. “But are you sure is safe to leave a sword like that somewhere were everyone could steal it?” Y/n asked.

“That sword has his trade-mark as a ninja.” Y/n could see his point, but she didn’t see how that answered her question. ‘I could learn to use it too.’ But she hadn’t pushed it any further.

At the bridge was gathered the whole village. “Thanks to you we've completed the bridge, but is super sad.” Tazuna said, patting Inari’s head. Y/n could tell it was.

“Thank you for everything!” Kakashi expressed his gratitude.

“Don’t worry! We will come visit!” Naruto smiled at Inari.

“You better.” Inari said with trembling lips.

Y/n watched Naruto’s lips tremble. “Inari, you’re sad right? It’s alright to cry!” He was about to cry himself.

“I AM NOT GOING TO CRY! BUT NARUTO YOU CAN CRY!” Y/n didn’t understand why this exchange was ever happening.

“Fine.” Naruto turned around. “Later.” Y/n facepalmed. ‘Boys are so weird sometimes.’ She thought as they waked away with Naruto tearing up and Inari sobbing on the background.

A lot had happened and a lot was waiting for them. Y/n was just happy to return back home alive.
