Saturday is finally here and Nate decided to sleep in today. The clock on his desk says 11:53 a.m when his father swings the door wide open to wake up Nate. He is holding a large box that has 'NATE"S DONATION BOX' written on it with a black sharpie. As the door groans open, Sport jumps off o Nate's bed and runs to greet Mr. Spencer.
"Rise and shine, Nate. Your mom wants you to make a donation box for the charity tomorrow." He calls out as he kneels a bit to pet the massive dog.
"... Yeah dad... in a sec..." Nate quietly groans and he tries to wake himself up. He stretches his arms and legs and rolls over he falls off his bed. Now that he's fully awake, he gets up to go to the bathroom.
* * *
Nate is a minimalist person. He is the kind of person who would get rid of something he hasn't used something in a long while. He only keeps things that have a really strong emotional value, such as gifts from significant people to him, or small things that remind him of the most important moments in his life. Anything else he would throw away or donate if he doesn't use or care about it anymore.
His donation box was almost full. He had stored all sorts of things: old phone cases; posters of singers he isn't into anymore; some keychains; clothes he outgrew; old toys he doesn't play with anymore; books he'd finish; old shoes he hasn't worn in months...
He came across an old children's picture book, 'Six Blind Men And An Elephant'. It was his favorite book when he was younger. Just looking at the cover he recalls the times when his parents and sister would read it to him. He decided to open the book and read it one last time.
Many centuries ago, there lived a king who always wanted to know what his subjects thought.
One day he asked his servants to bring him six blind men and an elephant. When the men and the elephant arrived he ordered each man to feel one part of the elephant and work together to figure out what the creature looked like.
Each man felt the elephant and gave a statement of what he felt. Each man gave a different statement but none of them agreed with each other. They argued over who is correct.
The king laughed in astonishment. "You fools act as if you know so much about something so big when you only know so little of it all," he told the men, "don't make assumptions of something you barely know."
THE ENDWhen Nate was young he had no clue what the story was trying to say. He still doesn't to this day. What a dumb story, he thought as he tosses it into his donation box.
Now that his box is complete, he brings is to his parent's room for them to take to the charity. After doing so he goes back to his room to sleep some more.
