The much dreaded day has arrived.
Heart beating, palms sweating, butterflies dancing, Nate walks into his form room slowly, facing downwards, goes straight to his desk.
Morgan came to school early, she was already sitting at her desk. She flashes a smile to Nate that says: good morning sweetheart! as he takes the seat next to hers.
Once he's sat, Nate rests his head on the desk while his leg starts to shake. He can't stop worrying about his confession letter to Melody. He spent all night worrying about it—last night, he even dreamt about it.
In his dream, Morgan and the twins accompanied him to Melody's locker to put the letter inside. After he did that, he looked over to his side and saw another guy throw a letter into her locker. It was Finn, Melody's ex. Afterwards, Melody threw away Nate's letter and kept Finn's. And they got back together.
Nate sighs to himself as he recalls that it was only a dream and that it's not what will happen in real life. But his leg is still shaking.
Morgan notices and takes Nate's hand. Poor Nate, she thinks. She crosses her fingers in hopes that Melody will feel the same way.
A couple of minutes pass, and two members of the student council knock on the classroom door. Nate holds his breath.
The members call out names of the students who are receiving letters. When each name gets called out, the rest of the class cheers and applauds. When some students get their name called out more than once, everyone else would cheer and applaud louder.
Nate never participates but Morgan would yell stuff like "ladies man!" Or "player!".
Morgan's name gets called out many times. Everyone cheers the loudest for her jokingly since she is openly ace-aro. And all her letters are joke confessions by the people she flirts with for fun. But she sees one of her letters is from Nate. She flashes him the brightest smile yet.
She opens the letter and reads it slowly as the SC members continue to call out names. The corners of her mouth turn upwards as she does. When she finishes she gives Nate a finger heart, Nate completes it with his hand.
When Nate's name gets called out, everyone is in shock. His heart skips a beat or two. Is it from Melody?
He goes up to receive his letter as his whole face turns brick red. He goes back to his desk and sees that it's a letter from Morgan. He laughs as he reads it and blows her a kiss.
His name gets called a second time. And this time his heart stops completely and he holds his breath. He walks up to the front of the class slowly, his face an even brighter shade of red.
Everyone in the class is calling him all sorts of names: "player", "chick magnet", "playboy"...
He looks at it. It's from Melody.
