I applied for an internship at a local tech company two weeks ago.

I received an email that I've been selected to attend an interview along with other candidates to determine who is best suited for the internship.

I told my family already and they couldn't stop congratulating me.

I reminded them that I might not get chosen so they shouldn't tell anyone else or be excited.

I'm at school right now, and I've been acting weird and nervous.

I'm pretty sure other people noticed.

The bell rang and school is over.

Me: Hi Maudie, it's going to be just us today. Kyle and Ava are going to be busy with their sports teams.

Maudie: Hey Ezra, are you alright?

Me: Yeah, I'm fine, never been better.

Maudie: Ezra, I've known you for five years. I can tell when you're lying.

Me: Really? How?

Maudie: Your fingers twitch like your typing something.

Me: Wow, I didn't know that it was something I do when I lie.

Maudie: Tell me what's wrong so I can help you.

Me: It's not something you can help me with but I'll tell you.

I grab her hand and pull her to a private corner.

I was about to tell her when I realized I was holding her hand.

I let go immediately but it didn't stop my heartbeat quicken.

Maudie: Tell me.

Me: I applied for an internship at a tech company. I work there for a couple of years and they pay for my university tuition.

Maudie: That's great, why are you upset?

Me: I'm not upset, I'm just nervous because I'm going to the interview in two days and what if I mess up?

Maudie: Calm down, deep breathes.

I took a deep breathe and calmed down.

Maudie: Is there anything I could help you with? Maybe we could research possible interview questions and prepare how to respond.

Me: That's a great idea. I was going to do it at home by myself but if you want, we could do that.

Maudie: We should do it at the office.

Me: We can't do that, my aunt is visiting and she's living in the office.

Maudie: I see. My dad will be home but we could do it at my house?

Me: I guess we could.

So the two of us went to Maudie's house while talking about various things.

When we reached her house I see Brian, Maudie's dad, sitting on his desk writing something.

Without looking away from his work he said.

Brian: Welcome home, Mauds.

Maudie: Hi, dad.

Me: Hello Brian.

Brian turned around.

Brian: Ezra? Hello, what are you doing here?

Maudie: I'm helping him with his interview for a tech company.

Brian: An interview?

Me: Yes, it's for an internship.

Brian: I see, carry on.

Maudie: Thanks dad. Come on Ezra let's go.

Maudie started walking up the stairs.

Me: Why are we going upstairs?

Maudie: I have a book for how to interview someone in my room.

Me: Are we going to practice in your room?

Maudie: Yeah, it'll be fun.

Me: Are you sure we should do that?

Maudie: What do you mean?

Me: It's just... that... umm...

I know what to explain but I don't know how to explain it tactfully.

Me: Nevermind.

I gave up.

As we reach Maudie's room, my heart beat louder and faster.

I took a deep breathe to calm myself and entered the room.

Maudie's room is like a small library.

It was full of bookshelves and a desk at the corner.

The bed was under the window, it was forest green.

Beside the bed was a table and on it there was a digital clock, a cactus plant, and an adjustable lamp.

Maudie grabbed a book from one of the bookshelves looked at me and smiled.

Maudie: Shall we start?

It took me a while, but her cute smile made me realize what I feel about her.

I, Ezra Banks, am in love with Maudie Miller.
