(18) MAUDIE'S PROBLEM part 2

Saturday, a day after the previous chapter at the ice cream shop where Maudie and Ezra had a date

Maudie's POV

Me: Thanks for coming, Ava.

Ava: It's all good, Maudie. Now tell me why we're here.

Kyle: Yeah, tell us why we're here.

Me: I need Ava's help. I don't know why you're here, but maybe you can help.

Kyle: I lost a bet against Mario, and he said that I have to hang out with a girl for a day. So I picked Ava because she's cool.

Ava: We all know you picked me because I have muffins.

Kyle: That too.

I wish Kyle would never change.

Me: Ava, I need your advice.

Ava: You two are so similar.

I couldn't understand properly what she said since she spoke in a quiet voice, but I think that's what she said.

Me: What?

Ava: Nothing. I was just making a mental note.

Me: I think I might like Ezra.

Ava squealed while Kyle choked.

I didn't notice Kyle drinking water.

Kyle: I think I shouldn't be here. This is way too gross.

He stands up and starts walking away.

Ava: Kyle. Sit.

Ava brings out a chocolate chip cookie.

Kyle quickly sat back down.

Ava: Good boy.

She pat his head and gave him the cookie.

Me: Don't you find it demeaning to be treated like a dog.

Kyle: Sure, I may have lost my dignity, but hey, free cookies.

Ava: He actually likes being treated this way. He says it makes life simpler, and he gets free snacks.

Me: Whatever makes you happy? I guess?

Ava: So... you like Ezra?

She had a big smile and sat closer and spoke more quietly.

Me: Right. But I think he doesn't like me back.

Ava: What makes you think that?

Me: Well, last time you two were talking about other girls, and he refused to tell me anything. He's been keeping a lot of secrets that he never tells me, even though we're friends and I thought that he trusted me. Also, he's been avoiding me a lot for the past two months.

Kyle: You're approaching this the wrong way. This is not a you problem it's an Ezra problem. You like Ezra right?

Me: Yeah

Kyle: Does he like you back?

Me: I don't think so.

Kyle: Well the solution is really easy. Instead of talking about whether or not he likes you back, it's better to just make him like you.

I look at Ava.

She looks back at me.

Then we both look at Kyle.

Ava: That... is not a bad idea.

Kyle: Just because I don't know maths or the elemental symbol for water doesn't mean I'm not smart.

Ava: I'm sorry for always underestimating you.

She holds his hand to show her sincerity.

Kyle quickly moves his hand away.

Even though Kyle's skin is dark and you can't see it very well his face is blushing and he looks embarrassed.

Kyle: Yeah, I know, but don't hold my hand it's weird.

I might be new to love but I can see those two eventually dating.

But Ava is the lovemaster she should know what she's doing.

Me: Thank you, Kyle.

Kyle: No problem. I might not like couples, but you and Ezra are my friends. Just don't do any mushy stuff in front of me.

Ava smiled

Ava hugged Kyle.

Ava: Awwww... you're so sweet.

Kyle: Ava! No! Stop hugging me.

He pushes her away.

Easily.

But Ava doesn't resist.

Me: Ava do you know any tips on how to make boys like you?

Ava looked at me with a very sly yet innocent looking grin.
