(11) MAUDIE AND AVA

Maudie's POV

Recently, Ava was busy handling her new event planning business but today she has a full day off, which is rare.

Ava and I planned to relax and watch Netflix in the Inbestigators office.

Brian: Mauds! Ava's here!

I grabbed my bag full of snacks and books and bolted out the door.

I walk down the stairs and see Ava with a backpack and a duffelbag.

This seems like way too much stuff but this is very Ava-like.

Ava: Let's go! Bye Mr. Miller

Me: Goodbye Dad.

Brian: Bye girls. Be safe.

The two of us walked out the door and started to walk towards Ezra's house.

On the way there, we talked about a lot of things.

Ava is so kind, she always talks about helping people and I always think that it would be better if there were more Avas in the world.

But sometimes she neglects taking care of herself so that's what we're going to do today.

We reached Ezra's house and rang the doorbell.

A few moments later Poppy opened the door.

Poppy: Hi Ava. Hi Maudie. What brings you here today?

Ava: We were wondering if we could use the office today as a place to relax.

Poppy: Yeah sure. Ezra went to work a few minutes ago so the office is empty.

Me: Thank you Poppy. Shall we go Ava?

Ava: Bye Poppy.

The two of us entered their backyard and went into the office.

We put our bags down and changed into matching animal onesies.

Me: How do I look?

Ava: You look totally adorbs Maudie.

Me: Thank you. Also can you help me with the bluetooth connection with this thing?

Ava: Maudie. You're a teenage girl living in the 21st century, how do you not know how to make a bluetooth connection?

She whipped her phone out and started tapping on it.

Me: I know. I'm just used to doing most things the old fashioned way, and most of the time I can just ask Ezra for help.

Ava: He is reliable isn't he?

Me: I guess so.

Ava: And, Voila!

Me: Oh yeah, I was wondering what happened with that guy who asked you out?

I sat down on the couch and brought out my peanut butter and salmon sandwich.

Ava: Oliver? I turned him down. I don't have enough time for a relationship right now. I might consider one after we graduate.

Me: Oh.

Ava: What about you? What's up with your love life?

I remembered the time Ezra and I nearly kissed in the art room a few days ago.

My pulse quickened and I felt my face get hot as I stayed silent.

Ava: Wait. Did something happen? Tell me everything!

She sat beside me and leaned really close.

Me: Nothing!

Embarrassed to talk about it, my heart beat faster.

Ava: Is he someone I know?

Me: I don't want to talk about it.

Ava; Oh My Gosh! He is someone I know.

Me: We should start watching the movie.

Ava: Okay fine, but we'll continue this conversation at another time.

The two of us watched a few movies until Ava wanted to give me a makeover.

She went all out with her fashion show and made me try all sorts of outfits.

After a long session Ava went to the bathroom.

I was wearing a light blue blouse and a pink miniskirt when I heard a knock from the door.

I thought it was Poppy and opened the door.

I was shocked and froze when I saw Ezra.

Ezra was blushing but I know that I was blushing too.

I was a bit embarrassed that Ezra saw me in this outfit.

Me: H-hi Ezra.

Ezra: Hey Maudie. You look really cute.

I was stunned by his words that I couldn't reply.

Ezra: I just wanted to see how you were doing and I can see that you're doing good so I'm going to go now.

He walked away pretty quickly, he stumbled on the garden hose.

I felt like smiling.

I closed the door and stood in front of the mirror.

Ava walked back in and said.

Ava: Did I miss anything?

Ezra's face popped into my head.

I see myself blushing and smiling.

Me: Nothing, nothing at all.
