When I left the class Marcus comes running up to me.
"That was... Uh... Pretty real." He says with a nervous laugh.
"Well I told you. I told you to go to the very back of your mind. But this was at the front of my mind because... Well.... Just because." I say awkwardly.
We walk down the halls in silence. I don't look back up at Marcus.
The rest of the day was pretty quiet. When school was finally out I rode the bus home. As usual I sit in the back seat. I put in my headphones and listen to my music. The ride home was nothing special. It was just long. The smell of terrible body odor began to get in my head. I finally opened a window and breathed in the fresh air. The bus finally made it to my stop. I thanked the bus driver and walked down my driveway.
I get the mail and unlock the door. Nobody's home as usual. I have lived by myself for quite sometime. My parents left me when I was little and I never did have any siblings. My aunt and uncle said I could come live with them if I wanted to. I politely declined. It guess I just wanted some time to myself. The house I have is not a big one. Just big enough for one person to live in.
I go into the kitchen and grab a granola bar from the pantry. I lay on the couch and take a bite. I look up at the ceiling. It's kinda boring now that I think of it. Just a plain white ceiling. I have to do something.....
I then run to my room and grab my jacket. I also grab about $125 out of my piggy bank. I know this seems like a lot but its worth it. I run down the stairs and grab my keys. I open the door and I was surprised to see Marcus standing there with his arm up just about to knock on the door.
"Oh, hey Holly." Marcus says with a smile, "I just wanted to come by and see how everything was going."
"It's going great but I was just about to leave." I say.
"Oh." Marcus says sadly, "Well then I'll just go." He begins to walk back.
"Hey." I say quickly, "Would you like to come with me?"
"Sure!" He says while his face lights up. "Where exactly are we going and what are we doing?"
"Well, we're gonna go to the shop down town and get some supplies for a surprise I'm gonna do back at my place. Would you like to help me do it?"
"Of course!" He answers. And with that, we were off to the shop. To be honest I'm surprised I even bothered with Marcus to come with me. He's also going to be in my house. Kinda weird, right?
When we finally get to the shop, I find a parking place and open my door. I lock the car and walk in.
"So what exactly are we looking for?" Marcus asks.
"Well we're going to need paint, brushes and maybe some duct tape."
"Any specific colors?"
"Yeah, actually. We'll need dark purple, some pink, gold, blue, black and some white. Also the brushes need to be different sizes, but I'll get those, and the duct tape."
We split off into different directions and within 15 minutes we find ourselves back at the checkout line.
"So are you gonna tell me what this is for yet?" Marcus asks while the checker gets our stuff.
"Not just yet. Maybe on the way home." I reply.
I then pay the checker. It was about $80 dollars. Perfect maybe we'll get a quick bite to eat before heading home. Man Holly, when did you become such a soft hearted loser.
I put the supplies in the back seat.
"Hey you wanna get something to eat before we start the project?" I ask Marcus.
"Sure." He says smiling at me.
"Do you mind if we stop at that Indian restaurant. I've never had Indian food before. I hope you don't mind." I say kind of shyly.
"I don't mind." He says, "It sounds good to me."
We get back to my car and start to go drive to the restaurant. When we arrive there there is but a few people.
We sit down and order our food. We don't say anything for a while until Marcus breaks the silence.
"So are you going to tell me what this is all for?"
I thought for a while. He's gonna find out when we get back to my place so might as well tell him.
"Well, I noticed how bare and boring my ceiling was in my living room, so I'm deciding to paint something on it."
"That sounds actually pretty amazing." He replies. He kinda gives out a little chuckle.
I know this sounds crazy but I'm just noticing how cute Marcus is. Holly, stop. He'll just break your heat like the last boyfriend.
"Holly? Holly, hello?" Marcus is saying as he's waving his hand in front of my face, "Are you ok?"
I must have been daydreaming.
"Oh, sorry I'm fine. I was just thinking."
"Are you ready to go? I mean I'm pretty sure this project of your is going to take a long time."
"Yeah." I say with a smile, "Let's go."
We get in the car and drive home. When we arrive I grab the supplies and get my keys out of my pocket to unlock the door. I stop. Crap. My house isn't that clean. I haven't cleaned it in a few weeks. What will Marcus think?
"Ummm, my house may be a mess. I'm sorry you'll have to see such a pig sty."
"That's fine." He replies laughing, "I'm sure I won't mind."
I finally unlock the door. I walk in take off my shoes, then take the supplies to my living room.
"OK now I guess I can tell you what I want to paint." I say turning to Marcus. "I want to make the galaxy and he starts."
Marcus looks at me and his eyes light up. "This is going to be awesome." He says smiling.
We then start to paint. I take roller and first paint the whole ceiling a black color. I then add the gold and white spots as the stars. I then add the galaxy. The purple, pink, and the blue blend perfectly.
After Marcus and I were done, we sat in the paper covered floor. Our hands and were covered with paint and we were exhausted.
"This looks absolutely amazing." Marcus finally says.
"I couldn't have done it without your help." I say while turning to look at him. "Thank you." I smiled.
"No problem..."
