Her Oasis

Scarlett woke, the coldness of her bed reminding her she was alone. Rolling over she swiped her phone off the night stand and tried calling Ben, again. Sadly, she wasn't surprised when he didn't pick up. Scrolling through her notifications she saw Harry had dm'd her, it was the post from The Sun. Scarlett rolled her eyes, closing out of the app, and getting out of bed. She figured Ben had seen the post and got the wrong impression.

Her solution was simple, she would go to his house after training, and make him listen. Until that could happen, She had a video to film so she got ready for the day. It was a football video with ChrisMD where they would be competing in head to head challenges. If you win a challenge you get to take a pen while the other stood in goal, but if you lost you had to complete a forfeit. It took a few hours to shoot the whole thing, but she left with a lot of good footage.

She went home to shower and change, after being covered in raw egg from a forfeit. Pacing her closet she decided on a simple outfit, leggings, an over-sized sweatshirt, and trainers. She finished getting ready, drying her hair and applying makeup, before heading to Ben's.

She felt nervous on the drive over not knowing exactly where his head was at. They hadn't gone this long without talking since before he had moved to London. Parking her car and slowly, she walked up to his front door. Her heart was pounding faster with every step, until she rang his doorbell. She stood there awkwardly looking around, when the sound of the door drew her attention. She was the last person he expected to see and she could tell he was caught off guard.

"Uhh, I just came by to have a chat. If you're busy I can go. Actually, I'll just go, you're probably busy and I shouldn't have just showed up-" She babbled.

"Scarlett" He interrupted, "It's alright, come inside." He opened the door motioning her in and she gave a half smile walking inside.

She didn't feel at home in his house, not like she used to. The vibe had changed, she couldn't describe it, it was just different. She didn't take a seat once they were in the living room, she wanted to find out what was going on.

"The date wasn't my idea, I didn't want to go," She broke the silence. "The Sun made it seem like it was more than what it was. And I want to be honest with you, because you deserve it, I took it seriously and I had a good time. But, I kept thinking about you, and what you were doing, and how, despite having fun with Harry, I wanted to be with you."

A slight smile appeared on his face, her words gave him the confidence to say what had been on his mind.

"I knew about the date. Mason told me about it at training and I was so depressed about it I didn't get off the couch. I didn't answer any calls, or texts, I just sat there. I realized I want more than what we have right now. I want The Sun posting about us, I want to take you on dates, I want to introduce you to my friends and family, I want you to be my girlfriend," He declared.

It was Scarlett was stunned, she didn't know what to expect when she came over, but that certainly wasn't it. Her mind was going a hundred miles an hour, yet her body was frozen.

"Scar, say something," Ben spoke snapping her from her thoughts.

"Ben, I want all of that too. But, Mason's been my best friend since we we're seven. I can't take this risk knowing it could jeopardize our friendship," She reluctantly explained.

"Don't tell me you want this if you aren't going to fight for it. If you cared about me half as much as I care about you, you wouldn't have a problem telling Mason to fuck off," He exasperated.

She couldn't believe he had accused her of not caring about him. How could he think that? Had he forgotten about the little notes she would leave for him to find after training? Or how she went to extreme lengths to find out his favorite meal so she could cook him dinner? What about the "good luck" bracelet she made him when he was nervous for his first champions league game? And don't get her started about the birthday party she threw because she couldn't stand the idea of him not getting to celebrate.
