A few days after the incident Scarlett finally decided to talk to Ben, inviting him over after training. He knocked on the door, it felt strange, he was used to just walking in. The door opened and she let him inside leading him to the living room. She offered him tea, but he declined not knowing how the conversation would go. It started with small talk mainly about how Tuchel was fitting in at the club, the match versus West Brom at the weekend and the Champions League match coming up. He finally shifted the conversation to the argument they had."I'm really sorry about the things I said, I regretted it instantly. I understand where you're coming from, but I would really like if we could still be friends," He explained.
Scarlett was surprised he had agreed with her, but she was thankful. She didn't know if they could go back to how things were but she definitely wanted to try. Ben was important to her and this was the only way he could remain apart of her life. After the air was cleared and they were back on the same page, he stayed over for a bit to play with Teddy.
When Ben left he felt better for the first time in days, but a part of him felt disappointed. He had fallen for the green-eyed girl, and was kicked back into the friend zone. He decided to call the only person who knew about the situation he was in, James Maddison. He answered the call immediately which was a surprise, as it usually took a few rings for him to pickup.
"Mate, I was just about to call you," Madders laughed.
"Bro, I've had a howler," Ben cut to the point of his call.
"Alright, let's hear it," His friend sighed.
"I caught feeling for Scarlett and she put me back in the friend zone," He explained turning out of the neighborhood.
"Oi, that's tough. I thought she was into you?" James asked.
"She is— or was, but Mase has this stupid thing where he doesn't want her getting involved with footballers. So she ended things because I told her I wanted more and now we're back to where we started," He sighed.
"Wow. The one time you decided to get serious, it ends up being the most complicated situation I've ever heard of. I don't really had any advice for this, but just try to move on. It's pretty clear it's not going to workout, unless she miraculously decides to tell Mount off," Madders suggested.
"Maybe I just have to wait it out, you know. It might just be the wrong time," Ben replied hoping his friend would agree.
"Yeah, it could be if you really like her this much. I think she's turned you into a melt," James teased, "I've gotta go, Kennedy and I are finding out the baby's gender today. We'll talk soon."
Ben hung up the phone a few seconds later feeling more optimistic. He knew Scarlett was the one, so surly their timing was just off.
May 2021
Spring was in full bloom which made Scarlett's heart happy. She loved flowers, and was a frequent customer of the shop a few minutes from her house. She was constantly updating the vases in her kitchen, dining room, living room, and bedroom. Her friends would often tease her about it along with her candle obsession. Mason had walked in her front door with a giant bouquet of pink peonies and Scarletts heart about burst.
"Mase, how did you know it was flower changing day?" She beamed. She couldn't believe he had kept track of how often she changed the flowers, much less remembered that peonies were her favorite.
"I didn't buy you these. They were sitting by the front door," He revealed.
A puzzled look covered Scarlett's face, she knew Christian didn't send them he would've brought them inside. She knew none of her other friends would drive across the city to bring her flowers. She took them from him and began looking for a card, but coming up empty.
