River

One year later-

I order an iced coffee while I wait for the boarding to start.

Old habits die hard.

I check my phone for any updates from my company.

Location of shoot: Park Avenue

Time: 11:20 am

At least I can sleep in.

Even though I love my job, it can get hectic. I just hope my seat isn't next to some crying kid, maybe then I can actually get some shut-eye.

An image of Alex praying as if she was summoning a demon pops into my head. I wonder how she is doing.

I walk along the aisle in the plane, looking for my seat.

B-35.

“Break-up guy?”

The familiar voice makes me tilt my head towards the sound.

“Alex?” I ask as I notice her seat number.

B-34

“Looks like our seats are next to each other,” She smiles.

Never thought this day would come.

“Hey, why am I still break-up guy?” I ask once I settle down.

She shrugs in response. “So how have you been River?”

“Never been better actually, you?”

“Never been happier I guess,” She chuckles.

“That happy to see me?” I tease.

“Yes and also this is the most content I’ve ever been with my life.” She smiles.

I can’t help but smile back at her. It’s contagious.

“I see you’ve finally gotten the window seat to yourself.”

“Indeed. And you’ve got the middle one, ready to start praying?” she jokes.

“Considering how well it worked for you that time, I think I’ll have to pass.”

Fortunately, the seat beside me remains empty.

“So, what happened with your ex?” she questions.

“Well after I went to go see her, I realized that I had stopped loving her a long time ago. I was clinging on to something that wasn’t even there. I guess I was just scared of change.”

She nods in understanding.

“And what about now? Do you still have the same ideals towards love as before?”

“I do, although now I’ve realised how important it is to focus on oneself. It’s no use getting into a relationship without working on yourself. And within the past year, that’s exactly what I did. I focused on my career and myself and honestly, I’m glad Nicole and I broke up.”

“See, I told you that focusing on your career can never be a bad thing.”

“Indeed you did Alex, indeed you did.”

“You just overcame a hurdle in your twenties, why are you talking like an old man who is gonna die soon?”

“It comes with the experience child, you wouldn’t understand.”

She looks at me pointedly. “I beg you, please never become an actor.”

“Still that bad huh?”

She nods.

“I still remember when you called me a tall grasshopper,” I chuckle.

“Fun memories right?”

“Yup. I don’t think I’ve ever liked a flight as much as I did that one,” I admit.

“Even though you had just gotten dumped over the phone prior to the flight?”

“Even then.”

“Damn, I must be amazing.” She concludes.

“Oh please,” I chuckle.

“So did you patch things up with your friend?”

“Yeah, although we aren’t as close as before.”

“Understandable.” she nods.

“I would have cursed him if he didn’t share the same name as mine,”

“You still remember his name?”

“Of course I do, that is the only reason I overheard your conversation. How can I forget that River?” she points out.

“Okay, okay, my bad.” I raise my hands in mock surrender.

“So,” she begins.

“Yeah?”

“If you had to pick one Alex, whom would you pick?”

“Oh in that case-” I’m cut off as she replies.

“Never mind, it would obviously be your friend. I mean you’ve known him way longer.”

“I was actually gonna say you.”

Has anyone seen the new fantastic Beasts movie? I'm a little late ik but I'm planning to watch it today.

Instead of putting up chapter names as one, two or I II, I decided to use city names, have I used your city yet? Let me know if you have any suggestions for the remaining chapter names :)
