Gracie pulls on her shoes as her dad walks out the basement "He's awake. He's weak, but it's probably best to stay out of the basement. He's Damon. I'm not sure how dangerous he still might be." Stefan tells Zach. "You're going to school?" Zach asks. "Came here to live a life. It's about time i get back to that. And Elena, if she's still speaking to me." Stefan responds, taking Gracie's shoes off and putting them on the right feet. "Why haven't you called her?" Zach asks. "What am I suppose to do, feed her another lie? I hate lying to her, Zach. I'm not good at it. She already thinks I'm hiding something." Stefan explains. "What choice do you have? You came here because you wanted to live as normal a life as you could. You knew this was going to be a part of it." Zach tells him. Gracie looks at her dad as he sighs before picking her up "Come on, let's head to school." he tells her, kissing her head. "We see Elena?" Gracie asks. "Yeah she'll be at school." Stefan nods, making Gracie smile and nod.
Stefan walks over to Bonne end Elena, holding Gracie in his arms "Hey." he greets. "Hey. You know, I gotta go. Be somewhere right now." Bonnie says awkwardly as she leaves. "I'm so sorry I haven't called." Stefan tells Elena. "No worries. I'll live." Elena responds. "I was dealing with Damon." Stefan explains. "And did you... deal with Damon?" Elena asks. "Yes. Yeah." Stefan nods. "For four days?" Elena questions. "You have every right to be upset with me. But can I explain it all to you? Please." Stefan pleads. "Sure. When?" Elena asks him. "I gotta be home after school, but The Grill, on four o'clock?" Stefan asks. "Okay." Elena nods. "Thanks." Stefan smiles. Gracie lets out a small yawn and rests her head on Stefan's shoulder "Stefan, where is Damon? He has some serious apologizing to do." Caroline asks, walking over. "He's gone, Caroline." Stefan responds. "When is he coming back?" she asks. "He's not coming back. I'm sorry." Stefan tells her. "This is a good thing, Caroline." Elena adds. "I know that." Caroline sighs.
That afternoon, Stefan carries Gracie into the Grill one over to Elena who is talking to Matt "I think you should talk to him." Matt tells Elena. "Talk to who? I'm so sorry that I'm late." Stefan apologises. "What happened?" Elena asks. "I got held up." Stefan responds. "Is everything okay?" Elena asks. "There was this thing with my uncle." Stefan tells her. "And you couldn't call and tell me that you were going to be an hour late?" Elena asks him. "Okay. You two have fun." Matt says awkwardly, heading off. "I'm really sorry. It was unavoidable." Stefan tells Elena. "What was unavoidable? Okay." Elena says, standing up. "Oh, uh, Elena, please..." Stefan starts. "No, Stefan, don't you get it? Every question gets a vague non-answer. What is so awful that you're afraid to tell me?" Elena asks. "I know you. My god." an old man says, looking at Stefan. "I'm sorry?" Stefan asks. "I know you. How can it be?" the old man asks. "I think you have the wrong person, sir." Stefan tells him. "You haven't aged a day." the old man says. "I'm sorry. excuse me. Hey, can we-- can I take you home and we can talk about it? Is that okay?" Stefan asks Elena. "Wait, what was that?" Elena asks, motioning to the old man. "I--I don't know. uh, nothing." Stefan tells her. "Right, nothing. Okay, um... I gotta go, Stefan. Excuse me." Elena says, leaving.
