4: Joke's on You

We all went in and sat down, I ended up in front of Four. Not my ideal spot but it'll do. Tris and Christina sat down on his left. They had what looked to be burgers in pans on the table and I had already grabbed one, put on some condiments, and eaten it by the time people started talking.

Tris grabs hers with a fork and I eye her curiously. Then Christine looks at her and says "Have you never seen a hamburger before?"

Tris seems embarrassed. "Well I've seen one, I've just never eaten one."

Then the boy across from them and beside me speaks up. "Abnegation eat plain food, plant-based diet with a minimum of sauces."

Then Christina turns her curious eye to him, "Which textbook did you swallow?"

They all smile and the boy looks at her, "Nice to meet you too. I'm Will. Erudite"

Christine nods, "Of course you are." Then she turns back to Tris, "No offense but I'm surprised Abnegation even eats at all. Too selfish right? No wonder you left."

Then Will smiles at Christina before talking to Tris "You have to be pretty self-confident to be friends with a Candor."

Then Christina looks hurt and I smile. I'm following their conversation very closely as I sip my water. "What does that mean?"

Will defends himself, "You have no filter, you say the first thing that comes into your head."

Then the guy beside Will speaks for the first time. "You mean like you're an idiot?"

They all laugh as Christina congratulates him, calling him Al. Then she starts to defend Candor, "At least we tell the truth!"

Will then tries to defend Erudite, "Erudite can tell the truth because we have the facts."

Then Four butts in. "I don't want to hear about your old factions, you're Dauntless now." Then he drinks the rest of his water.

Tris looks at him with curiosity and asks "Were you a transfer too? Or Dauntless Born?"

He looks stunned to say the least, as am I. Four gives off Dom energy, like that whole speak when spoken to thing. I wouldn't say a word to him unless asked. He gives her a ticked off look before saying "Are you kidding?"

Tris shakes her head in pure confusion. "No."

He then shakes his cup some, "What makes you think you can talk to me?"

She then thinks something over and I lean across the table some, "Don't." I whisper but she looks at him and says "It must be because you're so approachable."

Christine snorts, Four looks at her with murder in his eyes and I sink back into my chair, like the submissive I am. I ain't dying today hun. Then Tris looks back at her plate nodding to herself before Four goes back to his business. A man comes over and starts talking to Four and I try to look as not spyish as possible. Christine looks over at Tris, "You, my friend, have a death wish."

Cheers to that mate.

Then they start whispering about Four and I tune it out as a horn of some kind starts blaring. Then everyone starts banging their cups on the table, and I look down at my empty cup before lightly tapping it against the table.

Then it quiets down as Max takes the high stage. "Initiates. Stand." We all stand and I tilt my head toward the ground, trying not to look Max in the eyes.
