Sharp canines, upright ears with dog-like features. In front of Madeline were three hungry wolves ready to attack her. She rooted to the spot. There was no time to scream for help and screaming might have enticed wolves. There wasn't even time to get a panic attack. It was a do-or-die situation.
Thankfully, Madeline had learned ways to defend against wild animal attacks back in middle school.
Don't look in their eyes

Madeline without making eye contact bowed down slightly. This was to show that she wasn't challenging the wolves.
Without turning her back on them, she walked backwards while looking at their stationary paws.
One of the wolves moved forward in Madeline's direction while the other two ran away. Madeline was now about 20 meters away from that one wolf. She made herself look huge by climbing the tree trunk. It is said that wolves are afraid of larger species than them.
Eventually, the third wolf ran away too.
It felt as if life came back to her. There was no chance of survival if Madeline didn't remember these little rules taught in a fixture lesson that most of the students bunked.
She then sprinted towards Anna as fast as possible.
"Anna? where did you go??"
upon reaching the place where Madeline left Anna, she saw no one but their jeep.
Madeline kept screaming for Anna, she checked her phone but no network was available.
She crouched there waiting for Anna until about sunset she caught a glimpse of something.
It was Anna's piece of scarf lying below the tyres with drops of blood. Madeline followed the trail of blood until she reached a place from where she could see a flock of wolves feasting over a human body.
Madeline froze. She couldn't mumble a single word. She couldn't scream. She saw the corpse of her best friend ripped into pieces. The wolves had dreadfully murdered Anna.
While Madeline watched the hideous scene with her eyes wide open and frozen body, a wolf tossed Anna's head in her direction which caused the blood to scatter all over Madeline's face. This time Madeline nearly lost her consciousness but before she did, one of the wolves noticed her from a distance. Madeline ran towards the jeep as fast as she could. She didn't know how to drive but it was the only way of survival left.
She turned the keys and as soon as she moved the gear, she saw the flock of wolves running toward her. She clutched her feet against the accelerator with all the energy she was left with.
The jeep kept accelerating in an unknown direction as Madeline wasn't aware of the route she had to take. The trauma of her best friend's brutal murder kept running across her mind. She kept murmuring
"If I didn't make it, God please take care of him and my family. tell them that I loved them more than anything. May he lives his best life with or without me. ill always love him no matter what fate brings upon me, I feel like I am coming to you Anna"
She noticed the flock of wolves was still chasing her. She couldn't focus anymore. The jeep bumped into the river and that's when Madeline lost her consciousness completely.
"Did she pick up your call? It's night already she must be in Callas now"
Maurice and Zetsy along with Madeline's dad Mr Becker kept calling her but her number remained powered off.
They assumed it to be a network issue while Maurice stressed about it way too much and spammed Madeline with a lot of texts.

It was midnight and Madeline still didn't receive their calls. The stress was too much to deal with. and Maurice was restless. He contacted Callas railway station to take some details.
"Greetings. How can we help you?"
"I want to ask if there's a reservation for Madeline Becker and Anna josh"
"Yes perhaps they didn't show up and the train has already departed."
"what? they didn't show up? so where are they?",
"Yes they didn't and we are not aware of where they are. Thanks for calling at the Callas railway update."
Maurice despite of heavy monsoon reached zetsy's home in the middle of the night and told her about everything. He was extremely distressed.
"Don't worry, they might have stayed somewhere on their way and missed the train. You will be fine when she calls you tomorrow relax now",
"I hope what you're saying is true".
The next morning Mr Becker called Maurice and Zetsy urgently at his place to show the news headlines.
The Windsor police have found a body of a headless girl in the abandoned forest connecting Windsor to Callas. The girl has been brutally murdered by a flock of wolves. Identification is in process. Rescue teams are on their way.
The news left the three of them speechless. They were in denial.
"it must be someone else of course. Madeline was with Anna she wasn't alone."
Maurice muttered with a cracking voice.
"I think we should go to the sight, maybe we find a clue for where they both are"
zetsy replied.
The three of them departed for Callas. Upon reaching Callas they were called by the rescue teams to the morgue to identify if the body found in the woods were of someone they knew.
No one had the guts to move the white cloth away but someone had to do it anyhow.
