12 |could've been me

"VENA!" Elora exclaimed, grabbing onto her arm.

"Let me go," Vena said softly, tears welling in her eyes.

"No… Please! Don't do this!" Elora's eyes widened and welled with tears.

"I love you Elora. You were like a sister to me. It was wonderful while it lasted. But I have to ask you to let me go," Vena whispered. Her heart broke to have to say this, but she wanted nothing more then to finally sleep. Sleep and never wake up again.

"Please…" Elora pleaded, a tear running down her face.

"I'm so sorry," Vena whispered, pulling her arm out of Elora's grasp.

"VENA!" Elora screamed, as she leaned over the railing and watched Vena fall to the floor, to her death. Elora cupped her hand over her mouth and felt her knees buckle beneath her. Vena's eyes closed, as she exhaled her last breath. Tears ran down Elora's cheeks. She ran down the staircase of the castle and ran to Vena's limp body. She brushed Vena's blonde hair out of her face and stared at her dead sister.

"It could've been me," Elora whispered weakly, "Why did you have to do this?"

Caspian had finally managed to unlock his door and sneak out. He searched the castle grounds and finally caught sight of a redhead crouched over something. He ran over to her, seeing it was Elora, crouching over Vena's dead body.

"What in the world happened?" Caspian asked in shock. Elora looked up, her eyes red and face dirty and tear stained.

"She fell to her death," Elora responded shakily, "She's gone."

Caspian pulled her into a hug, letting her cry into his shoulder. Vena was the closest thing Elora had to a friend or sister. He himself teared up a bit, staring at the dead body of Vena was difficult. She was gone. There would be no one to make fun of him and taunt him. There would be no one to make sarcastic jokes and comments all the time. She came and left so quickly. She's gone with the wind.
