Chapter 22

Third Person's P. O. V:

Sakura wakes up with a sharp gasp and looks around. "What happened?" She wonders. Karina meows in worry as she goes over to her and it suddenly comes back. "Oh, no. She took Rin! She took Rin right out from under me!" Sakura puts her face in her hands out of guilt.

Shinobu goes up to her as Sakura and says, "Don't beat yourself up, Sakura. We will get Rin-chan back."

Sakura looks up and gets to her feet as she orders Jaken, "Jaken, go back to Sesshy-kun and tell him what's happened. Karina!"

The nekomata meows and transforms into her larger size as the imp questions, "Wh-What are you going t-to do, Sakura-sama?"

Mounting the golden furred cat, Sakura responds, eyes hard, "What do you think? I'm going to get my daughter back! Let's go, Shinobu!"

He nods once as he runs over and mounts while agreeing, "Coming!"

"Wait—!" Jaken calls but Karina has already taken off into the night sky after Naraku's incarnation. Jaken decided to do as Sakura says and goes back to his master.

As Sesshomaru stands on the cliff, gazing at the moon and the wind tossing his long silver hair, he thinks to himself, "The scent of the wind has changed."

Sakura and the others still haven't returned from gathering food, but Sesshomaru isn't too worried, since he knows Sakura would protect the children, and Jaken is with them.

"Sesshomaru-sama, Sesshomaru-sama!" A frantic voice calls. Sesshomaru turns his head to see Jaken stumbling into a stop behind him. "Young Rin has been abducted! Sakura-sama has followed them with Shinobu and Karina! Naraku's incarnation, Kagura, appeared out of nowhere and... took off with Rin!"

Sesshomaru doesn't let his worry show. The silver haired demon just stares silently down at Jaken.

"Let me reassure you, Sesshomaru-sama," Says Naraku, causing them to turn as Jaken gasps, seeing the demon in the baboon hide mask appear before them with Saimyosho, "if you heed my request, I shall return Rin in good health."

Jaken gasps, yellow eyes wide, "Ah! It's Naraku!"

Sesshomaru says calmly, "We meet again. So, what do you have up your sleeve this time?"

"Nothing special," Says Naraku. "I simply want you to kill Inuyasha."

A wind blows through them before Sesshomaru scoffs, "Huh. Why are you going through all this trouble for something so trivial?" Fast as lightning, Sesshomaru dashes over to Naraku and swings his right claws. He cuts clean through Naraku's neck. The mask drops to the ground and turns to rock and earth, as does the rest of the body. Jaken cries out in disgust.

"What is that?!" A tiny wooden demon puppet sits in the mound of earth. "A demon puppet...?"

Sesshomaru asks rhetorically aloud, "Does Naraku honestly believe that he could threaten me into action by endangering the life of a mere mortal?" He's worried about Rin, not that he'd let it show, but Sesshomaru will still go to rescue her.

Jaken questions, "Will you turn your back on the girl? Will you forsake her?" Without a word, the dog demon turns on his heels and stalks off into the night. "Wait!! Sesshomaru-sama, where are you going?!" Jaken hurries after him. "Where are you headed, My Lord?!"

Rin wakes up with a groan to find herself in a wooden house but quickly remembers what happens. She gazes around and spots a brown haired boy around Shinobu's age sitting against the wall, an arm propped on his knee. His hair is in a ponytail and he wears a sleeveless grey kimono shirt and shorts.
