The sound of her alarm brought her back to her senses. It was useless because she hasn't slept at all. Vienne turns it off and stares back at the ceiling. She can hear rustling down the stairs signaling that her mom is already awake, probably making breakfast. It's only five o' clock in the morning but Vienne is an early riser. While her younger brother and sister are still asleep, she helps her mom make breakfast.
She should be down there by now in the kitchen, but she doesn't have the energy to get up on her bed. She thought that her mom must've been wondering why she isn't down there yet. But what can she do? Her head feels heavy and her eyes are puffy. She spent the rest of the night crying and thinking about the rumors she heard at school yesterday. She closed her eyes as she remembers.
She overheard two girls gossiping about Minwoo when she and her best friend Tami passed by the gymnasium on their way towards their last period.
"Minwoo's finally going to confess his feelings to a girl!" One girl exclaimed which made her stop walking. She slowed down her pace so she could eavesdrop.
"Really?! Do you know who she is?!" The other girl asked.
"No one really knows silly! I just heard it from another girl who's also a Junior while she and her friends are walking in the hallway."
"Lucky girl. When will he do it?"
"Tomorrow! He's going to confess in front of-"
Vienne couldn't take it and stopped listening. She walked fast towards their last class fighting back her tears. Minwoo's the boy that she holds dear. For years she had loved him secretly. He may not know her but she knows a lot about him. Only Tami knows her feelings towards the most popular guy in school. And now that he's finally in love with someone else and it hurts her so much.
Tami catches up with her but stayed silent. She just held her hand and squeezed it tight as if saying "I'm just here." Her tears threatened to fall but she held it. There's no way she would ever cry here for all the students to see.
"Minwoo.." She whispered. "It hurts so much.." She felt like crying again but the tears never came. She'd already cried a lot. Maybe there are no tears left for her to shed anymore.
She stayed in bed for a couple of minutes more trying to get a hold of herself. Trying to at least endure the pain. She has to get up. She has to go to school. Her parents would question her if she don't and she doesn't want that. She finally stood up to fix herself for school.
Vienne studies herself in the mirror when she was done. Luckily, the puffiness of her eyes subsided for a bit. She just hoped that by the time she goes down for breakfast her parents won't notice that she'd been crying and had a sleepless night.
"Morning mom." She greeted her mother once she saw her at the dining area. She planted a kiss on her cheek. "Sorry I wasn't able to help you out in preparing breakfast."
"It's okay, dear." Her mom tells her with a voice that's full of understanding. Vienne smiles a bit and sat on a chair. Her younger brother and sister are already there. They're twins and younger than her by eight years.
"Are you okay? Your eyes looks weird." Icarus, her younger brother, asked her unknowingly. Vienne threw him a warning stare and he flinched.
"Vienne? Have you been crying sweetie?" Her mom asked as she scoots over her.
"No mom, I'm fine." She stood up before her mom could even reach her and excused herself. "I have to go." With that she left the table, almost bumping into her father as she walk towards the door. She just waved goodbye and left for school.
