Lydia's POV

"Well don't all answer at once." I said as I helped them lower Stiles down into his bed.

They seemed to be thankful that his bedroom was on the first floor. Especially Isaac who pretty much collapsed onto the floor as soon as he set him down.

"He overexerted himself, but I don't think that he's dying anymore so he should be good for the time being." Allison spoke up as we all left to go sit on the couch and talk instead of crowding Stiles.

The nail biting I had to resist doing while they were gone was ridiculous. Jackson had to hold me together and I wasn't sure if he was going to be able to for a while. Even though I had told them not to die, there was still a chance that they could've, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I should've been there to help them. Like, maybe my banshee scream could've helped knock a couple of bad guys down.

I'm just relieved they all made it back in one piece.

"So, is there anything I need to know about the fight that you guys are comfortable sharing?" We weren't going to push them, but we definitely still wanted to know.

They all shook their heads though and so I kept my mouth shut, waiting until they were ready enough to choose to tell us.

"No. We're not doing this. I really don't care whether or not you guys are comfortable telling us or not. I need to know if my best friend is dying in there, and I need to mow how close all of you were to suffering a fate likely close to that of which his would've been. No secrets."

I sat in shock at what he had just said. Was this actually Jackson Whittemore talking or had he been taken over by a demon? Actually, he had always been protective over his friends. Even before, with Danny, and me, he was always there if one of us felt like we were drowning, or if he needed to beat someone up.

He hasn't necessarily always been the asshole everyone thinks he was.

"Jackson. With all due respect, you weren't the one out there. You don't know what it's like." Isaac said quietly as he looked at the hands he was wringing through each other.

"Are you kidding me right now? Are you talking about the whole not knowing what it's like to be absolutely terrified your friends are going to be murdered by aliens? Because check, I've done that. Or are you talking about fighting for your life in a situation you don't know if you'll make it out of? Because yes, yes Isaac I've done that too. So don't try and tell me I don't know what it's like. How about you tell me what the hell is going on with my friend so I can see if there's a way to help him because I know he didn't just fricking over exert himself!" He finished as he slammed him fist down onto the table.

Everyone stared at him in shock this time.

I mean, I understand that they wouldn't want to talk about it. If I had went through that, I wouldn't want to talk about it either, but Jackson has never really been one to take no for an answer.

He just sat there. Waiting for an answer he knew he wasn't going to get, but he still waited for it.

Finally, Allison took a deep breath and spoke.

"Stiles he....he died in that battle. I-if Erica hasn't known CPR, then..." She trailed off as she choked on her last words.

The room was silent once more, but the silence seemed to be hurting everyone more than it was helping.

"Okay. He's alive though, and we can check on him in a little bit, but you guys. Are you okay? Let's worry about you guys right now."

I was trying to divert the situation onto something a little less depressing than that, but it didn't seem like I was going to be able to avoid anything like that at this moment in time.

They didn't seem to want to care about themselves at all in the moment.

"Well, we made food. Considering the fact that you'd probably be hungry when you got back. So, we'll go get that for you." I ask but grabbed Jackson by the arm and dragged him into the kitchen.

He made a noise of discomfort at the way I grabbed him, but I paid no mind to that and instead gripped his arm tighter than before.

"They're miserable." I mentioned as he looked at me like I was an idiot.

"Of course they're miserable Lydia. They just fought a giant monster and they had to realive Stiles through CPR. Honestly surprised they didn't break any bones with that one, but still, they're probably not going to be okay for a long time."

I went to go reply to him but I heard a scream come from the other room which immediately sent me on high alert. Jackson too as we ran out of the kitchen into the living room, only to find it empty.

"Where did they go?!?" I asked worriedly, but this time just as Jackson was about to respond another scream sounded out.

It was coming from Stiles's room.

Jackson moved before I could even think about what to do next and before I knew it we were standing in the doorway.

Nothing was wrong.

In fact, everything was actually perfect.

The others were standing around Stiles who was up and talking. Well, sitting up and talking. He still seemed to have the black veins on his chest, but other than that, he looked really good.

"Hey Lydia!" He exclaimed excitedly as he went to get up and go to me, but Isaac pushed him down before he could even try.

I motioned to my chest to get him to look down at his.

"Yeah I noticed that too. I'm thinking that it's just a scar. But it makes me look pretty badass don't you think?"

I nodded as I laughed and he smiled victoriously.

Everyone was okay. And maybe they wouldn't be mentally okay for a long time, but for the time being, they were all alive, and they were all here.

Who knows how long I would be able to say that before it's not a reality anymore.

Hopefully forever.

But maybe we need to leave New York to ensure that.
