When my mom and I finished shopping for my dorm, she helped me put everything away then left. I came back to my dorm around about four, so I decided to meet up with Veronica then head to the cafeteria. We were leaving our building when she asked a question."Why do you look so glum?" She asked, "is it about...you know who?" I shook my head.
"No, but thanks for reminding me," I sighed and looked over at her, "it's about Ezra, I think I made him upset." She raised an eyebrow and then laughed.
"Okay? You care why? So what he helped you out, that doesn't make him your friend, and how could you have made him upset anyway?" She asked as we walked down the ramp leading to the cafeteria.
"Stop, I consider him a friend...and my mom said something that upset him...then when she left he told me he liked me, but when I told him I didn't feel the same...he didn't take it well, I think he was about to cry." We walked into the building as I told her and she laughed.
"What? He started crying? Was he bawling his eyes out like that time Jason from middle school threw his lunch into the river during that field trip?" She asked, I frown and nudged her arm a bit. Thinking back on it now, I'm pretty sure Ezra could barely afford to go on that trip, it was seventy-five bucks per student, on top of that he bought lunch that day on the trip, so I'm pretty sure the waste of money must've bothered him.
"Hey, that wasn't funny then, and it isn't funny now...and I said it looked like he was about to cry, not that he did." She smiled.
"C'mon Ke-Ke, I was joking girl, I'm sorry." I shook my head and ignored her. We looked around a few minutes before we decided on what we were going to eat, for obvious reasons, I had my salad, Veronica settled for the same and we began to look for a table. After about a minute we saw Stacey sitting alone and decided to sit with her.
"Oh my god Keisha, I been looking for you all day!" Stacey said as we took our seats, "I think we got a way to do something about Kevin." When she said his name I suddenly felt lightheaded. I pushed away my salad and sighed.
"There goes my appetite," I mumbled. Veronica shot Stacey a stern look before rubbing my back.
"No wait, hear me out...I asked around today, and I SWEAR I didn't mention your name...but you may not have been the only girl this happened to, and this isn't the first time Kevin and his friends did some shit like this." She looked around, as if to make sure nobody was listening then spoke, barely above a whisper.
"Remember that girl Megan who got pregnant and then killed herself over the summer...that may have been Kevin's baby." I gasped and covered my mouth. I remember Megan, she was the sweetest girl I had ever spoken to, she was born in China and didn't come to America until she was almost fourteen, she told me a lot about how desperately she wanted to fit in, so she began going to parties on campus, it made me sick to my stomach thinking that she could have killed herself because he raped and impregnated her.
"Whoah...that's some deep shit," Veronica said after a forkful of lettuce, "hey wait, I know her old roommate the semester before she passed away, it was that girl Alyse, maybe she knows something, we could ask her." My eyes widened, there was no way she was considering that.
"What? are you crazy? what would you even ask her?" I asked.
"Shit, I dont know," Stacey said, "but its worth a shot...hey there she goes right now she just came in...wait, that's...no fucking way." She was staring directly behind me, I turned around to look and my jaw dropped. Alyse was walking towards a vending machine, but she wasn't alone, Ezra was right behind her and they were laughing about something. I rolled my eyes and stabbed my salad angrily, when the fuck did those two get so close?
