"Please, Miss Evans and Miss Martin, silence. We are about to start the lesson," Professor Slughorn warned.
The girls had to stop their chatter to prepare their ingredients for the upcoming potion. However, once Aurora realized that Professor Slughorn was helping Peter Pettigrew and Sirius Black with a burnt book, she turned to Lilly.
"Come on, tell me what happened next!" she whispered as the redhead settled on her seat with the ingredients ready in her hands.
"Be patient, will you? I will spill all the beans after class. But right now, I don't want to get scolded," Lilly said, which made Aurora groan in annoyance. She did not have the patience to wait until the end of the class. It is not every day that her best friend, the Lilly Evans, would go on a date with someone. She wanted to know every little detail!
"Oh, come on Lilly! You know I can't wai-" A sudden slam of the classroom door interrupted her. Apparently, a student was late. She rolled her eyes in annoyance when she identified the student. She was quite happy at the thought of having a lesson without Remus Lupin.
The thing is, Aurora Martin hated Remus Lupin and she was sure he did not adore her either. Why? Because in their first year of Hogwarts he pulled the chair from under her while she was trying to sit down, as a prank. She still remembered the embarrassment she felt in front of the whole Gryffindor common room because of the laughs. After getting up, the first thing she did was push him to the floor as strongly as she could out of anger and then run to the girls' dormitories. As a result, Remus ended up on the floor with a bruised arm because of how strong the push was.
Since that day the two despised each other. Furthermore, because they both were brilliant and hardworking students, they became academic rivals which did not help the situation at all.
They had been hating each other for 6 years. The two would never talk to each other willingly. When they did, Aurora usually throw him harsh insults and Remus would sarcastically fight back. It was almost impossible for the two to silently sit together and talk about something casual without ending in a fight. Even with their mutual friends around, there would be certain tension and unavoidable bitter comments.
Right now, he was standing in front of the door out of breath, waiting for the Professor to turn his attention toward him rather than his best friends. It was obvious that he was running to get to the class. His hair was a total mess and he was having a hard time keeping all his belongings in his hand without dropping them. He patiently waited for the teacher to handle the problem that Sirius and Peter made, meanwhile trying to catch his breath.
"Sorry, Professor. I'm late," he said trying to catch the professor's attention.
"Ah, Mr. Lupin! I thought you would not be attending, considering you are never late." Professor Slughorn laughed as he moved away from the boys. "Please, prepare your ingredients as written on the board and find yourself a seat."
Remus nodded swiftly and hurried to get ready for his needs. His eyes wandered around in need of finding a seat. Sadly, Sirius and Peter were together and James Potter was settled with another student. One seat- 2 rows behind Lilly and Aurora's seat- caught his eye and he started to make his way towards it. On his way to his seat, he nodded at his close friend Lilly. Unfortunately, it was not that easy to avoid her. While passing next to her, Lilly grabbed his wrist and whispered "Why are you late?"
"I slept in" Remus replied, but Lilly didn't seem to believe it. Still, she let go of his arm, since she did not want to interrupt the lesson. However, she could not help but murmur to herself with furrowed eyebrows "Why did he come late"
Aurora, on the other hand, was impatiently waiting for Remus to go away so that she can continue talking to Lilly. After Remus settled in his seat, she could not help but bitterly say to her best friend "Exactly. He should have stayed in bed and spared us from his existence for a day"
