"So Chelsea," Adam started as he walked over to his youngest sister. "Explain Sam again."
Chelsea sighed a little as she turned to her older brother. "Well, Sam is someone who doesn't identify as exclusively a woman or a man," Chelsea explained.
"Huh?"
Chelsea thought for a second. "Sam is someone who doesn't relate to just being a girl or just being a boy."
"Ooh. I think I get it. Kinda."
"Instead of she/her or he/him, Sam goes by they/them."
"But doesn't they/them mean more than just one?" Adam asked.
"It can mean that, but they/them can also be singular."
"Okay."

"So Chelsea, have you talked to Sam lately?" Bree asked as she came up to her sister in the kitchen.
"Not really. Sam's band has a concert in DC this weekend and hasn't been at school all week. They also have a concert in New York sometime next week, so they won't be back for another week," Chelsea said, grabbing a drink from the fridge.
"Sam's in a band?"
"Yeah."
"Who's Sam?" Tasha asked as she and Donald came down the stairs.
"One of Chelsea's friends~," Bree said as she left.
"Why did she say 'friends' like that?" Davenport asked.
"Well... uh..." Chelsea trailed off and took a drink from her drink. "Sam is a friend that I maybe kinda like."
"Oo~ you like a boy," Tasha said.
"Not exactly."
"What do you mean?" Davenport asked.
"Sam is non-binary," Chelsea said.
"Oh, okay," Davenport shrugged.
"Aw, Chelsea. I'm happy for you either way," Tasha said. "So tell me about this Sam."
Chelsea smiled. She and Tasha walked over to the couch to talk a little about Sam. She was just happy that her family was accepting of her.
