Bright, blurred white lights invaded her vision as her eyes fluttered open. At first it was uncomfortable, so she blinked a few times to help ease the discomfort. As the feeling subsided, her vision became clearer, and she was finally able to see the room she was in. The white sheets on the white bed, a chair on either side of her, both empty of any form of life. An open window to her right, a closed wooden door to her left.

The more she gained consciousness the more her senses kicked in. She began to hear the beeping of the machine she was attached to, the muffled sound of voices of people outside her door, and the swaying of the trees in the breeze that travels just outside her window.

She could smell the antiseptic in the air, but something else caught her nose. Something almost sweet. She turned her head a little more to the right to see a nightstand with flowers, cards and gifts scattered yet crammed onto that small nightstand. They were lilies, and she found them beautiful.

The door opened, but her attention didn't falter from the flowers, not even when the nurse dropped her clipboard on the floor from seeing the once unconscious girl now wide awake.

She tried calling out for her, her voice stuttering still in disbelief as she retrieved her clipboard from the shiny floor, but again her attention could not be grabbed. The poor nurse didn't know what to do with the unresponsive patient, so she left to go get someone that would know what to do, and to inform the right people of her awakening.

It didn't take the woman long to find the girls doctor who was quick to come pay her a visit, and the phone call also didn't last very long before the other person had hung up and the poor lady.

The doctor tried his luck with getting her to respond, but the most he got was a turn of her head from the flowers to the open window. He tried asking her how she felt, what she remembered, if she realised where she was, but to no avail. He even tried making normal conversation about it being a nice day outside and how she'd be allowed out soon enough, hoping to get some sort of reaction from the promise of freedom, but no such luck.

Just as he had given up hope trying to communicate with the girl, the door burst open, a rush of black storming its way into the room. The nurse from before came stammering in behind him not long after, clearly out of breath, hands on her knees asking him to slow down and to stop running, even though he had already come to a halt.

He stood staring at her, waiting for her to turn to him, but she remained still and unfazed by anything. He turned to the doctor and asked what was wrong with her after calling her name with no response. The doctor, of course, had no answer than her possibly being in shock.

The doctor decided it would be best for him and his colleague to leave the two be for a while, hoping he may be able to get her out of her trance.

He waited for them to leave before he moved closer, he went and sat on the chair to her right, and just before he sat down, he stopped directly in front of her, and crouched down so they were faced to face. His eyes were darting back and forth between her almost blurred eyes, hoping to find some sort of form of life. But she just stared back, almost as if she was looking through him like he was see through. When he got no response from her, he caved and sat down, the hope draining from his worried heart.

Silence seemed to consume them, but a flicker of movement caught his eye. A bat of a pair of eyes had been what he had seen. Soon they came in flurries, her rapid blinking caused the flame of hope to re-spark within him.

Her head turned towards him, he sat up from his slumped position, eyes growing a little wider not wanting to miss a single second of anything she could do. She was looking at him this time, eyes focused, staring deep into his soul.

Her lips curled a little as she continued to look at him, and these were the only two words that came out of her mouth...

"Marry me?"
