Tia and Tobias left the campsite. Tia followed Tobias as he lead the pair out, discreetly enough to ensure no one was awoken. An array of tents laid across the dark red dirt. The duo made their way through the camp site.
"We're in the clear." Tobias stated softly as soon as they had made it out of the area, unnoticed.
"So what's the plan?" Tia asked, "I mean... we are literally in the middle of nowhere"
A smirk made its way across Tobias' face.
"That's the good part, we are free to do what ever we want. No restrictions."
Tia was slightly confused by his view
No restrictions. What did he mean by that?
"No restrictions?" Tia queried.
"Well, who is going to stop us? Yeh we may not have as much entertainment as we would in the city, but we can still do plenty of things here in the outback."
"Like what? The only thing surrounding us is a singular road and some bushes!" Tia retorted.
Tobias scoffed while rolling his eyes, "Look."
He placed his left hand on Tia's shoulder whilst pointing his right hand out to angle Tia's visual. Down the road was a a pair of kangaroos, making their way across the road.
"Wouldn't see that in the city, would you?" Tobias smirked.
Tia had an astonished look on her face, she had only ever seen kangaroos in the zoos and national parks before, never in the wild!
The duo continued walking for quite some time, they walked down the dark, country road. Tobias had a torch, and although Tia did not notice, Tobias made sure to keep her close. He in addition, walked on the side that the road was on, making sure Tia was within an arms reach of him. Though the country roads were usually safe, Tobias was not going to take any risks, especially with it being night time.
Being surrounded by nothing but the outback was something Tia was not used to. She could tell that this was nothing new to Tobias. He had mentioned before that his family owned a farm that he stayed at frequently.
The pair continued their trek, sometimes in conversation and sometimes just enjoying the silence.
"Isn't it crazy how at the start of this year we hated each other?" Tia stated, interrupting the silence that surrounded them.
Tobias turned his head for a brief moment, to be facing Tia.
"Things change..." Tobias speculated.
"I mean, going from enemies to friends is a big change."
"Friends is a big change, yeah."
Tia did not appreciate that Tobias sounded unsure about their new founded friendship.
"Well you seem unsure about that! If we aren't friends then what are we?" Tia probed.
Tobias was silent for a instant.
"I don't know, Tia. What I do know though, is that I like the relationship we have now."
Tia was taken aback by his response
I like the relationship we have now.
An array of butterflies exploded in her stomach as she allowed Tobias' words to sink in.
"Tia, you good?" Tobias asked.
Tia noticed she had zoned out and quickly shook any remaining thoughts on the situation, "Yeah sorry, just thinking."
Tobias shrugged it off and the duo continued their walk down the dark road.
After around another half an hour, the pair decided to make their way back to the camping grounds to get some sleep.
While walking back, they continued with their dynamic of some conversation, some silence. It was nice for both of them.
"Thanks for tonight, Tobias." Tia voiced.
"Don't mention it, I had a good time too." Tobias grinned.
Tia wasn't sure why, but a smile formed across her cheeks at Tobias' confession to also enjoying tonight. She loved the way that the country air blew gently onto her skin, making her hair flow in the breeze. She loved the way to she got to experience an outback adventure with a fellow classmate. And, she loved the fact that said class mate was Tobias Cameron.
Tobias and Tia had arrived back at the camp grounds. Tobias reminded Tia to stay silent as they snuck back in. Tia was tip toeing back to her tent when she felt a presence behind her, it was Tobias.
"Your tent is the other way, what are you doing?" She whispered to him.
"I'm walking you back to your tent, obviously." Tobias scoffed.
The sentiment was greatly appreciated by Tia, but she knew that Tobias didn't need to know that.
They arrived at Tia's tent, and she turned around to thank him once more for the adventure they had embarked on together.
Tobias sent her a quick smile before turning around to go to his own tent. He was glad he got to experience what he did tonight. He had never realised what Tia was really like. Yeah, he had spoken to her during to the connections of Hannah and James, but he had never really spoken to her. And honestly, with all the rumours spread by his other school associates, he was always slightly unsure of what to think and feel towards Tia. He knew he could think for himself when it came to her now. The eshays were greatly mistaken.
