Opal's POV
I woke up in a completely different environment. I supposed that it was my room in Hades's palace. In the underworld. It had nothing to do with my own room. This one was enormous, almost the size of my entire kitchen in the old apartment. It was extremely luxurious, the bed was so big that if I slept horizontally I would probably still be able to fit. I saw stairs and realized that the room was so big that there was almost an entire library in there. I really hoped that it was filled with books and different stuff but from where I was I couldn't see them properly so there was no way of knowing.
My snooping was interrupted by someone opening the door violently. A short woman comes in. Her hair was red and her skin was pale.
Almost too pale.
"Time to wake up! Wake up! Lord Hades has called me to wake you up! He doesn't understand- and neither do I- how you sleep so much. When I was still alive, I woke up when the sun rose every single morning!" When she was alive? What the fuck had I gotten myself into. "Seriously, Lord Hades brings you here. You're asleep. I come to clean. You're asleep. Lord Hades comes to have breakfast with you. You're as-"
"I get it, I'm asleep." I groaned as I moved to the other side of the bed.
"Do you know what time it is, miss?" The lady asked as she lifted the covers. She then proceeded to open the blinds.
"I don't care." I tried to move the covers back up but the woman simply wasn't planning on letting me go back to sleep.
"I'll be back in five minutes and if you aren't up when I come back I'll call Lord Hades." She threatened as she left the room.
I didn't have much of a choice so I got up, my eyes were still adjusting to the light. I try to remember coming here after the subway ride, but the only thing I can recall is falling asleep on Hades's shoulder.
Oh no. He did not. He did not carry me while I was asleep. Oh god. I noticed that I was still wearing the same clothes, that's good.
I went up the stairs only to find out that earlier I wasn't looking at books. They were clothes, and a lot of them. There were some relatively normal clothes, though I couldn't find anything remotely similar to my uniform for staying at home (which consisted of sweatpants and sweatshirts), there were dresses as well. Tons of dresses.Various colors, each of them a different style and fabric. I don't bother to look through them. I go downstairs again and pretend that I didn't see them.
I opened my backpack and put on the sweatpants and t-shirt that I packed. He seriously didn't think that I was going to go live in his fucking palace or whatever you could call this shit, and I wouldn't bring any clothes with me? He is either really stupid or I'm a genius. Both of them seem like realistic possibilities.
"Oh finally!" The lady from before came in. Her smile dropped as soon as she saw me. "Oh dear, what are you wearing?"
"Clothes."
She laughed. "Lord Hades was right when he said you were funny! He chose these dresses himself." She said "You should be grateful he put in that much work for you."
"I will make sure to thank him for locking me up in here and being kind enough to make the slightest effort of choosing these lovely dresses for me, as soon as I kick his ass."
"That 's nonsense." She grabs one of the dresses. "This one is very pretty. And it was very expensive as well. Lord Hades will be glad to see you wearing it." She gave it to me.
"I won't wear this."
"Why not? It's a lovely dress!"
"Fine. Just leave so that I can put it on." She started to leave. "Thanks"
I put the dress on. I had to admit that it was kind of pretty. It was a long dark green dress. It was made of velvet, I didn't like the way it felt on my body. It had a corset, and the woman offered to help me to tighten it. She wanted to do my hair, but I told her not to. The dress was enough.
I had to admit, the dresses were nice, and the room was amazing. I could see myself enjoying all of this if it didn't hurt my pride to actually say it out loud.
Fortunately, I found that a whole collection of my favorite shoes was in the closet as well. Converse in various colors. He must've known somehow how much I liked them. Stalker. Because of that, I wore the old black ones that were already worn out. It's not like anyone would be able to see them under the dress.
I looked in the mirror.
I hated that the dress actually looked good on me.
I hated that it complimented my green eyes. I hated that he chose it for me, probably thinking about how it would look on me.
I hated that it left my shoulders exposed and I could see my collarbones.
I hated that I found a box with my name on it and it was a necklace with an opal on it. I hated that the necklace was nice. And I hated putting it on. I also hated that I left the room with it on. I also hated that I never took it off ever since.
One thing I didn't hate was my hair. It was wavy, cut in an irregular style. Professionally cut by me at 3 am after everyone kept telling me that short hair wouldn't look good on me. Oh well, it did. And I didn't give a single fuck if they thought it looked good or not. I thought that they would finally see me, but it took them one whole day to notice that something was different. Eventually, I stopped doing things to make people see me and started to live life as I truly wanted to.
I decided to explore the palace before that woman barged in my room again. I opened the door that revealed the corridor. Two guards stood by my door.
Lovely, how thoughtful of him to think that if I needed company, I would have two of my good buddies, soldier 554 and 892 (according to their tags) to play cards with me. I ignored them and began to look around. There were a few paintings on the walls, which were covered in dark wallpaper, some were landscapes from places I didn't recognize and others were portraits of some men who looked... fine and women who were breathtakingly beautiful.
I continued to walk through the maze of hallways until I bumped into something- no, someone. I look up to see the person that I wanted to see less.
Hades.
He was wearing a black suit. It contrasted his pale skin. It was sharp-looking and well fitted. It radiated wealth, just like him. He stood with confidence. Making sure that everyone who passed through him would be sure of his power. I didn't care for his power. But he was wearing the same shoes as I, except that his weren't as worn out as mine.
"What are you doing here?" He asks.
"What does it look like?"
"You can't be here, love."
"I'm not very worried about whether I can or not."
"It's part of the deal for you to spend time with me. And, lucky for you, today I am feeling extremely kind, and you will only be required to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner with me."
"Lucky for you, I will kindly refuse" I mumbled and he tried to hide his laughter. Apart from the smile attempting to leave his lips, he ignored my refusal and wrapped his arms around my waist, guiding me (a.k.a forcing me) down the hallway into the dining hall.

He was sitting down on one head of the table and I was sitting on the other. One servant, who was wearing the same uniform as the one who woke me up, asked what we would be having. Hades asked for coffee and pancakes. Since I wasn't hungry I didn't ask for anything. The woman kept insisting that not having breakfast was bad for my health even though I assured her that I wasn't hungry. After a while, Hades just told her to leave.
We were staring at each other. I didn't know what he was thinking, but I was trying to figure out a plan to escape. Maybe if he leaves me alone for a while I might be able to find an exit.
"That dress looks lovely on you, love."
"Of course it does." This was my favourite tactic. I called it the "fake it until you make it". Which consisted of pretending that I was this extremely confident person until I actually felt like one. So far the only thing that changed was me discovering how great of an actress I was. "When are you going to leave?" I said.
He sighed. "Don't make this worse for you, love, please."
I won't talk to him anymore.

A few minutes later a servant brings the plates, when she puts the plate with the pancakes in Hades's seat he points to me. The servant gives me the pancakes. I look at the plate and then to Hades. All without saying a word.
"You have to eat."
I push the plate away.
"I wasn't asking."
I continue to refuse to eat.
"I'm not leaving until you eat."
I ate the pancakes and the coffee he ordered for me later. When I finished he asked if I would like a tour of the palace. I knew that it would be an opportunity to find an escape route, since I really wasn't looking forward to being with him, I shook my head instead.
Hades asks one of the servants to take me to my room. When I arrive, there's a box full of books on my bed. Great! I'll get to share them with Steve and John! (I may or may not have given the guards random names. I certainly wasn't going to talk to them. Not because they were guards, only because I wasn't planning on staying for long and their names would be irrelevant to my future)
I begin to consider how my life will be for a year and a half if I don't leave. I'll have food, books and nice clothes. It might not be that bad.
And he was completing his part of the deal, I supposed that I had to do mine as well.
Nah, where's the fun in that?
