Hades's POV
Opal's absence could be felt from miles away. During dinner, sometimes Hades's eyes glanced through her seat, only to find it empty. He never told any of the servants to clean Opal's room, it is exactly how she had left it.
For Hades, it felt like time had stopped since she left.
When Hades doesn't have to work throughout the day he finds himself walking towards her room, only to open the door and find it empty.
When he puts on his shoes, Hades still hesitates and grabs the converse he wore that matched hers, but then he reminds himself and puts them in their place again. His brain does not know how to function when she is not here.
Hades hopes that Opal feels well, because, deep down, he is sure that he's feeling everything except well. It is like this pain, this misery, enjoys the sensation of overtaking him, corrupting him, destroying everything that it can find. It is an acid that corrodes Hades's body. He is rotting from the inside. And, for the first time in his long life, he wishes to be mortal and die. To put an end to this.
These have been the worst three weeks of Hades's life.
