The next day instead of being woken up by a servant to have breakfast with Hades, Hermes was the one who woke me up. I might have accidentally hit him in the face because I wasn't expecting him, but we will not mention that. Hermes asked me to go with him, that he would show me the outside, but I told him that I had to have breakfast with Hades. He didn't seem to mind, or maybe I was just bad at reading other people's emotions.
After eating breakfast super fast and wearing the outfit that Hermes picked out for me while he was waiting, he teleported us to somewhere that I didn't know. I had grown used to the feeling of being teleported around, and it didn't bother me as much as it did the first time.
When I opened my eyes I realized that I was looking at the gates of a palace that looked almost identical to the one from the Underworld, except that the colors weren't as dark. Hermes was still holding my hand as he explained that we were on Olympus. I was absolutely speechless, as someone who has been saving up for a trip to Greece to visit the ancient ruins, this was the best thing that could've happened to me.
After he gave me a general tour he was taking me to the throne room. There were two many columns and pillars to count and 12 thrones displaced in a U shape and a god, who I recognized to be Zeus, was sitting in the biggest one. There was a woman, absolutely gorgeous, sitting on the throne next to Zeus. Her skin was dark, her hair was braided and she wore a crown. Her dress was white and had peacock feathers around it. I assumed that she was Hera. Some of the thrones were empty, only four more were occupied.
"So are you Hades's little girlfriend?" Zeus spoke. "You're actually cute when you aren't angry. Better than Persephone."
"Was I supposed to take that as a compliment?"
"You're just like my daughter Artemis, you women never know how to take a compliment."
"Have you considered the possibility that you are the one who doesn't know how to give them? And maybe, just maybe, it's not because I'm a woman, you're just an idiot?" I knew that I could be stepping over the line, but he could kill me if he wanted. I didn't have anything more to lose.
"It was a joke."
"I thought jokes were supposed to be funny. Could you, perhaps, do me the favor of explaining it to me?"
"I won't tolerate you speaking that way to me, mortal."
"It 's ok, honey. I'm sure she didn't mean it in a bad way." The goddess who I thought was Hera comforted her husband.
"Oh no, I definitely meant it in a bad way." It felt nice to know that I had this effect on someone as important as Zeus. I wanted more. I didn't know why, maybe it was because of Hades, but everyone was starting to notice and hear what I had to say.
And I had a lot.
I always had, and I had always said it, except that no one cared enough to listen.
Except now.
Someone laughed. I turned to the source of the laughter and found a god sitting down. He was eating some grapes and looking at me with a wide grin splattered on his face. He looked drunk, honestly.
"You know, Opal, we should just go before my father hits you with a lighting." Hermes suggested, grabbing my hand and beginning to leave.

I was lying down on Hermes's lap while he was telling me some stories about being a god. We were in his temple, alone and I wasn't even nervous, which was a good sign. I was surprised at how easy it was to be his friend. Usually, it was difficult to make friends for me.
"Is having Zeus as a father that bad?" I asked
"It is pretty bad. But gods and humans are very different so I'd say that it didn't affect me that much. It's just really annoying to have a narcissist as a father when Narcissus wasn't even born."
I laughed and asked another thing. "Don't you get bored? You're literally a postman"
"I spend a lot of time with Apollo, you'd like him too."
"Oh! Can I meet him?"
He hesitated. "I was hoping that we could be alone for a while today. And he's kind of busy too."
"Oh, no problem." I tried to hide my disappointment.

After a while, he was leaning closer to me and I could sense my heart racing. Was it because I liked him or because I was nervous? Either way, I wasn't ready for what he had in mind.
"I'm hungry." I said
He moved away from me. "I have an idea." He announced grabbing my hand and teleporting me somewhere. When I opened my eyes I realized that he teleported us to my favorite ice cream shop.
After ordering a gigantic ice cream and devouring it I was feeling pretty full. To be honest, I was already tired and wanted to go back to my bed. He must've realized that and asked if I wanted to head back. I told him that since I was already out of the Underworld, I could visit my family. He agreed and took me to my family's house. It brought back tons of memories from when I still lived there. Some of them were good. Others insisted on coming back despite my efforts to have them buried for good.
I don't know why, but I was under the impression that Hermes wasn't really happy to visit. I told myself that I was just imagining things. If he didn't want to come, why wouldn't he just say so?
My mother was home, I still didn't know what the terms of her coming back to life were, she probably retired or something. She offered us something to eat, we both accepted and we chatted for a bit while we ate. My mother kept repeating how great it was that I was finally making friends. When it was time to leave and I had to say goodbye, it was painful, I had to admit, but still, comforting, the feeling of hugging her and she finally being strong enough to hug me back.

When we were in my room I told him all about my plan to escape and he, thankfully, was willing to help me. I gave him the list of what I would need and he assured me that the next time that we would see each other he would have them. He also said that he could have just teleported me out of there, but if Hades found out that Hermes helped me he would just find me with him and bring me back. I needed to leave on my own and find another place to live. I had my savings, maybe it would be enough.
I was saying goodbye to him when he asked. "You know, there's going to be this party in a few days in Olympus, celebrating the summer solstice, and I was wondering if you would like to come with me."
I hesitated. First of all, would Hades even let me leave? Second, did I want to go?
"It's totally chill, Hades will probably go so you don't have to worry about him and Apollo will be there, too. It's going to be nice, but if you don't go it will be boring."
"Don't worry, I'll go with you."
"It's settled then, I'll pick you up at eight o'clock."
"I'll see you then."
"I'll probably visit you sooner."
"Great."
As soon as he left I laid down and fell asleep. Don't get me wrong, I really liked hanging out with Hermes but this was a full day of being out and I was exhausted. I would worry about dinner with Hades later.
