Chapter 16: Kane

Kane's Perspective

Kane looked over the sprawling cityscape before him bathed in the dawn of a new day, from the top of one of the tallest buildings in this world, a grimace on his face. The reanimation process he used on Danzo Shimura using the Dark Umbras Cube, the variation that maintained his freewill and control of his power, was a gamble. A gamble that ultimately didn't pay off. At least not entirely.

The 'Reanimation-Jutsu' of the 'Naruto Shippuden' universe was most certainly a versatile method for raising an immortal army, and had its practical uses when combined with the Dark Cubes. Danzo with his unique background should have been the ideal candidate for resurrection as a strategic squad leader. And not implanting the control factor during reanimation was meant to heighten Danzo's Ninja-abilities (particularly those that enabled him to locate the Umbras Cube in the 'Bleach' universe), and to enable him to handle himself in a fight against the Champions from other universes.

Unfortunately, the strength of his will and his eventual display of treachery proved him too much of a liability for Kane's plans. And it also seemed Danzo had underestimated the resilience of the 'Bleach' universe's denizens as well as how well they would end up working with the Champions of other universes.

Well he had learnt his lesson. Those were two mistakes he wouldn't be making a second time. Kane turned around on that roof top to face his latest byproducts.

And his grimace became a smug smirk. These seven among all his potential candidates were powerful in their own right (or else had other useful capabilities). Powerful enough that imprinting stricter controls on their programming wouldn't negate their usefulness too much. Or at the very least, the unique connections they shared with various individuals among Glover's Champions should make them suitable distractions while Kane continued his search for the rest of the Cubes uninhibited. And an incursion in this particularly flashy city in this particular world would do nicely as a distraction for Glover's forces away from Kane's own activities. The perfect testing ground for his latest achievements!

Kane's ultimate goal was within reach!

"Attention Reanimates! I am Kane. The Superior Being who summoned you from across the Multiverse, and restored each of you to life. And until such a time as I choose to release you from your duty, I am your master!" He saw some of them flinch at the last two words, clearly trying to resist his control over them with all their might, for all the good it would do. Kane's smirk became a gloating grin. "Each of you died pointless, pathetic deaths in your respective worlds-"
