It was here.. the time had finally come when all these aspiring knights would show off their abilities in hopes they would be chosen. The first round was decided and opponents were selected. And so began the selections. The group which Samael had noticed earlier was in the same group as him meaning unless they made it to the final round they wouldn't be facing him. He was disappointed slightly but there was nothing he could do. There were ten rings so that ten matches could be conducted at once, this was necessary seeing the huge number of people that were participating. The announcer announced the names of the participants. Samael was chosen as a combatant in the third batch. The announcer began,"On the left side of ring three we have the daughter of the Viscount of Aurel, Roselia and on the right we have Samael Archon, prince of Eden." After both Samael and Roselia were in position the referee announced the beginning of the match.
Samael's opponent was an interesting one. She used a sword as well. However her sword seemed to be different from a normal one. It was lighter than a normal blade and sharper as well. She seemed very tense and her breathing was unsteady. Samael on the other hand was steady as a rock and calm as a ocean. He drew his blade and got into his stance. He sighed and said,"It is unfortunate that you were to face me in the first battle had it been someone else you'd be fine. Against me, however, you have no chance." Before she could even retort he had already commenced the attack. A single strike, a single slash, that was all it took. Everybody felt as though his blade were moving incredibly slow, however, they all felt the same thing against that blade, they had no chance. Only the high level people could tell just how terrifying his strike was. She couldn't even react to the strike even though she saw it in slow motion. She was flung back at immense speed and was defeated in a single strike. He sighed to himself and suddenly everybody who were watching the battle felt the same thing.. his back was very lonely as though he had already reached a point where there was no one else to accompany him. He slowly returned back to his spot and everyone made way for him.
The next battles continued without any commotion. However Samael seemed to be completely uninterested in everything. His eyes were looking straight ahead without any aim. It was as though one would lose themselves staring into his eyes that were deep and unfathomable like the abyss. After the day was done everyone returned to their dorms. Samael was seen walking towards Roselia his face betraying no emotion. She looked at him in contempt and said,"What? Here to rub it in?" He replied,"Not at all. On the contrary I came to tell you that you're good, really good. You have a lot of potential. Keep it up." With that he turned around and left to his dorm to rest for the night. The week went by quickly and 5000 people were eliminated. The remaining 5000 would fight from the next day.
On the other end, the void beasts had just finished their preparations. They were preparing to attack the capital. They were in actuality just a scouting party sent to gauge the strength of the humans. Meanwhile the humans slept completely unaware of the calamity that was brewing.
