~ After School ~

{Elsa}

I sit on the bench where I usually wait for Anna. 2 minutes later, I get a text message from her.

Anna: Gotta do something tonight. Sorry, I'll be back soon, I promise.

Ok. See you soon...

"She's going to see a movie with Kristoff, isn't she?" I thought. She doesn't like to tell me when she's going out with Kristoff. She feels guilty that she has to leave me out, because Kristoff likes movie nights to be him and her.

I get up and walk home.

I unlock my apartment door. I dump my school bag on my bed. Then I look over. On the table, is a basket. Covered in flowers and a banner that says 'Best sister ever'. I peek inside, there lays a note. I open it, it says:

Dear my sister, Elsa,

I know you've been through a lot lately, and I want to say I'll be there for you when I can.

But sometimes I might not be the help you're looking for.

That's why its made me so happy, that you're finally starting to let others into your life, instead of being isolated, and shut away. Hidden in the shadows.

So here I have a gift basket for you. Hope you like it.

Your sister, Anna. <3

I grin, but then I frown. This is gonna make it way harder to tell her the truth. Other things lay in the basket.  A blue knit scarf, a book, and... chocolate. Mmm. I sigh. For sure, when she gets back she's gonna ask me all about the thingy with Jack. What do I say? I just don't know what to do.

{Jack}

My bare feet walk along the sidewalk. The lampposts light up the ice cold streets of our city. Damp and dark, full with little white Scandinavian townhouses. My house is a long way from here by walking. But for some reason, today, I want to walk instead of fly. I don't care how long it takes, I need to clear my head.

Why.

Why didn't I stick up for her?

She never did anything to me, to anyone. I feel so bad.

When I finally get to my house, I push on the our front door. "It's open?" I say quietly. I walk inside with caution. The wooden planks creak as I walk on them.

"Emma! Mom!" I call out. No reply. Straight down the hallway, is our kitchen. I smell something cooking, it smells good.

I peek around the doorway, a stew pot sits on our stove. I pick up the wooden spoon next to it, dip it in and take a sip.

"Soup... what is going on?" I place the spoon back down, and look behind me as I strafe to the door to my left. My sister, Emma's room. I knock three times before calling out, "Emma? Are you in there?" I try to see through the tiny gap under the door.

Nothing.

I get up and scratch the back of my head.

"Boo!" something grabs me from behind. I gasp and turn around, Emma stands there giggling.

"Haha, very funny." I roll my eyes.

"Did I scare you?" She laughs.

"The jump scare? Not really. Pretending to be kidnapped? Yes, that was scary."

"Kidnapped? I was out with mom, at the store. We needed vegetables for the soup, I just got back."

"Then why was the door open?"

She freezes. "It was? Oh, yeah. Heh, I forgot to lock it."

I breathe a laugh and elbow her lightly. I'm just glad she's alright.
