Chapter Fourteen - Playing games in the snow

{Jack}

I jerk awake from my nap. Emma's face with her smirk are the first thing my eyes see.

    "Jack," she calls, "Wake up."

   I rub my eyes with my hands, they're cold, as usual, but I could care less.

     "What? What do you want?" I say in a dull, sleepy voice. Not like I can help it; I'm half awake and half asleep, it's kinda easy to tell when I haven't gotten enough sleep, or when I've just woken up. I like to sleep. I like naps. But for some reason, I can never sleep without interruptions. I thank my sister Emma for that.

      

  "Mom says we have to go outside." she tugs on my left hand, trying to make me get up. Unfortunately, she isn't strong enough to lift me, and I'm happy about it. "I'm taking a nap, Em. I'll join you later," I turn and sleep on my other side, squeezing the pillow to my cheek. "Jack come on," she wines. "If you don't get up I have ways of making you," She releases her grip on my hand. I look over my shoulder at her.

     "Oh yeah? Try me." I place my head back on my pillow. She scoffs. "Mom!" she yells, "Jack won't get up!" Wow, should have seen that coming. My mother walks towards my room, her footsteps echo the house. As I lift my head up, I see her body shadow under my door. I groan as I lean back and let my bed catch me. She enters the room.

        "Go play a game with your sister, Jack." She leans against the wall and frowns. I sigh. She looks at the floor, then back up at me.

"It's extra cold outside, we know how much you love the cold," she tries to act cheerful, even though you can tell from her voice tone, that she is fed up and drained. Because of it, I say, "Okay." and get up. I can tell today isn't the day to be difficult.

                                                                    Emma drags me out the front door by my sleeve.

"What game do you intend to make me play?" I breathe a laugh. "The oldest in the book," She glances over at me. "Hide and seek."

"Heads or tails?" I say, a coin resting in my palm, Emma watches the coin carefully. She lifts her head up, "Heads." she smirks.

"Alright, but don't cry when tails wins," I tease. She rolls her eyes, "Just flip the coin, Jack." I flip.

                                                                                                        Heads.

"Ha! Who's crying now?" She blurts out, her arms folded. I stick my tongue out at her, "Yeah yeah, just go hide." She laughs and                           runs off into the cold, icy forest. I begin to count. I still can't believe I'm playing this game at seventeen.

"I'm gonna get ya, Em." I hear a groan from the forest. "That's not what you say after you finish counting! Do you even remember how to play this game?" She yells.

"Maybe not, but I do know how to find a sister,"

"Oh? Then I wish you the best of luck, you'll need it." She snorts. "Remember, you get two minutes."

"I only need one," I chuckle as I dash off, into the forest to find Emma.
