Before Belinda and her mother left for Knockturn, Bellatrix gathered some galleons in her coat.
"Here. Buy what you want when we're there. I'll have to stop by Borgin and Burkes."
"This is a lot!"
Belinda was used to her hefty allowance. But this seemed like the average wizards bank account.
"Don't you like shopping?"
"I do."
"You're a deatheater now. You can travel without a broom and without apprating. Just follow me."
She watched Bellatrix turn into black smoke.
"Uhh...." She didn't know how to turn, but she she just thought of following Bellatrix. Before she knew it she was up in the air surrounded by black smoke, and she followed her mother's trail.
She had never flown without a broom before, and she loved it.
When they got there, Belinda stayed close to her mother. She knew the alley very well but all the wizards there never failed to make her uneasy.
"Evening Lestrange."
"Fawley."
The wizard stared maliciously at the women. Belinda slowed her walk, staring back at him angrily.
"Belinda."
She snapped her head away from the man and followed her mother, trying to ignore the constant stares. Bellatrix was calmer than ever. She knew people would stare and talk but they'd never act further than gossiping.
"Ma can we stop in here?"
In the witch clothing store, Bellatrix looked for a new pair of boots and Belinda went straight to the corsets. She loved to wear them over and under her dresses depending on the style.
"I like these heels for you."
She turned around and Bellatrix showed her a pair of beautiful heels with green bottoms.
"I don't know if I want these two with the clips, or the sleeves."
Her mother grabbed all four of them from her and walked to the counter with the rest of the items. To Belinda's surprise, the woman at the register made no eye contact with the witches. She found it weird because Narcissa always made conversation with her when she took Belinda shopping here. It appears, the Black sisters carry very different energy.
"Meet me back here in an hour." Her mother instructed. They were now outside Borgin and Burkes.
"I can't go in with you?"
"Not just yet. I need to make a few arrangements for Draco's initiation soon. One hour, then we can go eat."
"Okay."
"If someone bothers you....." Bellatrix referred to her forearm. "Call him. He won't hesitate for you."
Her mother entered the shop and Belinda huffed. She had gotten an owl from Fred when summer first started saying he and his brother finally bought their shop. As she made her way to Diagon alley, she noticed it was almost the same as Knockturn, with the gloominess. It was no longer filled with laughter or conversations. There weren't any people at all.
"Oh shoot." She stood outside of Ollivander's which was now an abandoned building with shattered windows.
"Tilt it a little to the right, Georgie!"
She smiled when she heard Fred in the corner. He was guiding his twin, who was up on the building trying to put the finishing touches on their store sign. She watched them for a while, until they walked inside. Belinda hadn't spoken to Fred for a year because of Blaise. He only just started his letters up again when they broke up. The last time she ever interacted with either of them was when they had a threesome the night of the ball. She took a deep breathe, and walked up to the store. It wasn't officially open yet. She saw them loading in boxes.
A knock on the window made the twins turn quickly. She expected them to ignore her, just like Neville did nowadays. But George smirked and Fred ran to the door, opening it for her.
"Long time no see Lestrange. If you're going to pop in at least answer a letter or two."
"Sorry. Been busy." She said walking in.
"That or you're scared." George teased.
"Oh? And what could I possibly be scared of Weasley?"
"Watch it Georgie she might crack you one like she did Zabini."
"Do people still talk about that?" She cringed.
"Not necessarily."
"It was just something memorable for our last year."
She smiled at the thought. They had officially graduated. She wouldn't see them anymore.
"Don't look so sad Belinda."
"Whatever! I'm not sad."
"George and I are moving out of the burrow soon. You can always come over." Fred said to her. Belinda looked at him in shock. George walked away with a box in his hand. ".... I'm glad you stopped by..... I've been trying to reach you through letters."
Belinda swallowed hard as she listened.
"I was thinking we could give things another try. Now that my parents won't be on me about everything anymore."
"I-"
"You don't have to give me an answer right away. I know we were both young, but they stopped us from something that I at least think was real."
"It was real." She muttered. Her 14 year old self would have said yes and moved in with him right away. "My life's a real fucked up mess at the moment. There's so much I want to tell you. But...."
"You mother? I know."
"Yeah... well not just that I think school's going to keep me quite occupied as well."
Fred studied her expression. It was a rare one. She was nervous.
"There's someone else." He said calmly.
"It's more complicated than that." She sighed. "I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize for making your own decisions. As long as it's not Zabini."
They both laughed and Belinda shook her head.
"No thank goodness. But um.... Where are you moving?"
"Still going to be out in west country. We just needed our own space from home you know."
"Same here. Things haven't been the same at home."
"You can always move in with us.... George will have his own side of the house."
"So move in with you?" She teased.
"Well.... You can figure out your complicated situation first."
They stared at each other and she reached into her cloak.
"I meant to give you this as your graduation gift."
She handed him some galleons and he stared at them in shock.
"Belinda this is-"
"I want you to use it for your shop."
".... We were thinking of adding a mascot outside. Thank you."
He gave her a kiss on the cheek and they both froze. Belinda cleared her throat and checked the time on the wall.
"I have to get back-"
"Yeah yeah.... And hey, write to me alright? Doesn't have to be.... You know but- just don't be a stranger."
"I won't. Take care of yourself. Let your brother know I said goodbye."
Fred watched her as she walked until he could no longer see her. Belinda walked back to Borgin and Burkes and saw her mother through the window, talking to Fenrir Greyback. The werewolf sniffed the air, and looked straight at her. Bellatrix smiled and made her way outside.
"Come love. We have our first meeting in two hours."
