Chapter 2: Brewing Up The Next Best Thing

Alexis walks in after getting dropped off by Pete and begins smiling. Her mom, Diana, begins to wonder why.

"I guess someone got their first kiss from someone." says Diana. "Yes, mom, I did. He kissed me first." says Alexis. "He did? Not you?" says Diana. "Nope. All him." says Alexis. "I think he really likes you." says Diana. "I think so too." says Alexis. "Is there anything else you've got planned? I wanted to take you out for the day- some shopping and dinner." says Diana."Yeah, that sounds good." says Alexis. "Let's go then." saysDiana.

She and her mom left to just go browse and grab a bite to eat for dinner. Alexis hears a text message on her phone, and it's from Pete. She smiles, and it says, "I don't have work tomorrow- would you want to hang out and stuff?" She replies back so fast saying, "Yes, I'd love to. :)" He replies back, "Okay, I'll see you then." She smiles, and her mom notices.

"It's him again, isn't it?" says Diana. "Yes, and he invited me over tomorrow if that's okay." says Alexis. "It is. I've got stuff to sort out with your dad tomorrow- divorce stuff. He texted me while you were over at Pete's." says Diana. "Okay. Tell him I said hi at least." says Alexis. "I will. You have a good time tomorrow at Pete's." says Diana. "I will, thanks again." says Alexis.

The next day at Pete's friends' place /outside Seattle, WA

Pete picks her up from her mom's house and her mom had left already to settle divorce stuff with her estranged dad.

"I thank you for inviting me." says Alexis. "You say that in such a sad tone." says Pete. "It's been complicated right now with my parents getting a divorce and all. My mom knows it's been hard on me." says Alexis. "Well, the day is ours. First things first, I know another good coffee shop besides Brew Blends and we'll grab breakfast there and see where the rest of the day takes us." says Pete. "That sounds like fun. You're a good person, Pete. I don't know if I've ever said that." says Alexis. "You've not. I thank you for saying that." says Pete. "Not a problem. I'm looking forward to this day with you." says Alexis. "Me too." says Pete, locking hands with Alexis's.

She smiles as she interlocks his hand as he drives to another coffeeshop of his. He pulls in, and it's super interesting (in a good way of course). It's called The Bean.

"This has the same vibe as Brew Blends but with a bit more food options. Let me take you in and show you." says Pete. "Okay." says Alexis.

She notices all the artsy décor and the welcoming baristas taking everyone's order. He orders his usual oat-milk latte with a extra shot, and he gets Alexis' favorite: an oat-milk flat white. They both order avocado toast with an egg on it for breakfast. He grabs a spot by the window and she loves the vibe in it.

"You like it so far?" says Pete. "Yes, thank you for introducing me to this place. It's such a vibe." says Alexis. "I wanted to take my favorite person to one of my other favorite spots in town." says Pete. "Aw, you are so kind." says Alexis.

He smiles and their avocado toast with egg has just arrived to their table. They both kindly say thank you and eat and chat. After leavingThe Bean, Pete drives her to a nearby beach that isn't open as much in the winter as it is in the summertime. She takes in the scenery as he drives and feels a sense of calm overtake her.

"I wanted to take you to my favorite spot." says Pete. "I didn't know this was your favorite spot. I like how hidden it is from town." says Alexis. "Me too. I feel calmer when I come here. It's been a lot on me since I lost my parents when I was 18. I understand your parents are going through a divorce." says Pete. "Yes, they are and it's been a lot on me mentally and physically. When I saw you at Brew Blends it's like my whole world shifted into a different direction. A happier direction." says Alexis. "I feel like we were meant to be with each other in our past lives." says Pete. "It's not just me that feels like that, too. I'm glad I met you. I don't know what I would do without you." says Alexis. "Me neither." says Pete, leaning into Alexis for a kiss. "You didn't have to do that." says Alexis, with a laugh. "I wanted to. I don't know how to say this but I love you, Alexis." says Pete. "I love you, too." says Alexis.

They both realize they have feelings for each other and Pete takes her for a walk along this hidden gem of a beach. Afterwards, Pete takes her to a farmer's market before it closes for the day. She walks with him around to see what they might have. He gets her a sweet homemade treat and another coffee of course. Her mom messages her, "I thought this divorce would take a short time but I'll be out a few more hours. I also wouldn't be offended if you wanted to stay over at Pete's for the night. I just need some space to process all of this. I love you, mom." She replies back with, "I understand. I'll stay over at Pete's and I'll let him bring me back in the morning. Take all the time you need, mom. I love you too."

"What's up?" says Pete. "It's my mom- she's still doing divorce stuff and it's taking longer than usual. And she said she wouldn't feel offended if I stayed the night at your place. If that's okay with you first." says Alexis. "It's fine. I'll ask Maya to she if she has some spare clothes for you to wear for the night while you get your clothes washed + dried." says Pete. "Okay, thanks." says Alexis. "You ready to go?" says Pete.

She nods, and he takes her back to her place. He asks Maya if she has any spare clothes that would fit Alexis. She gets the gist behind the situation and leaves some clothes in his room on his dresser.

"You want anything?" says Pete. "No, I'll probably take a shower- just show me where the bathroom is so I can get myself refreshed." says Alexis. "It's upstairs on the right. Maya left the clothes on my dresser in my room for you." says Pete. "Okay, thanks." says Alexis. "You're welcome." says Pete.

Alexis goes to take a shower and Pete goes ahead to do a uber eats order for him and Alexis. She comes back down and notices that Maya left one of his favorite band tees for Alexis by accident. Pete just takes in all of her. He's so unsure of what to do with himself.

"You distracted by my beauty, Pete?" says Alexis. "A bit." says Pete, with a laugh. "I can't help that I'm so beautiful." says Alexis. "I ordered us dinner from uber eats. Italian food fine?" says Pete. "Yes, actually it is." says Alexis.

The order arrives within an hour and they eat in the kitchen. Pete cannot help for the fact that he met someone like Alexis. She smiles back at him as he does the same.

"I don't know what I do without you, Barista Boy." says Alexis."Me neither. I love you, Alexis." says Pete. "Me too." says Pete.
