Chapter 17: Summertime and The Coffee Is Good... / A big surprise!

June 2021

The next day...

Pete is back in creative mode for his coffee / tea drinks this summer and they yet again close up to come up with these drink ideas. He comes up with two coffee drinks and two tea drinks for Brew Blends- the two coffee blends are going to be: a coffee lemonade (either iced coffee or cold brew coffee with lemonade), and one inspired by a popular summertime ice cream treat: a Neapolitan ice cream- an iced mocha with vanilla syrup and a strawberry cold foam. As for the tea drinks- an iced matcha with coconut milk and an iced rose hibiscus herbal tea; they release these drinks at a later date at Brew Blends.

A week later at Brew Blends

June 2021

Seattle, WA

Alexis drops in to try the new drinks today and she can't help herself when she sees Pete behind the counter making these fun, colorful drinks. She takes her order and decides to get the Neapolitan inspired coffee drink. She tastes this and it's exactly good as it sounds. She finds a spot to curl up with her new read Love & Gelato (she didn't know it was a trilogy prior to getting it so she'll have to get the rest of them if she ends up liking this book) and reads it as she sips on her fun drink she got today. A few hours later, Alexis leaves and notices Pete.

"Hey, how are you?" says Alexis. "I'm good, babe. Did you try any of the new drinks today?" says Pete. "I got the ice cream sandwich inspired one- very creative, Barista Boy, very creative." says Alexis. "Thank you, Coffee Girl, thank you. I need a few minutes to close up but you want to grab dinner after?" says Pete. "Sure. I'll wait for you outside." says Alexis. "Cool; whatcha feeling?"says Pete. "I was feeling something like sandwiches. You know a good spot, babe?" says Alexis. "I do, actually; I'll take you there as soon as I get closed up." says Pete.

Alexis waits outside for Pete and he locks up and they head out to a sandwich spot that Pete enjoys going to. It's not that far down the road and they get two of the signature sandwiches and some chips and take it to go. Driving home, Alexis looks at the sun setting and notices it how beautiful it is. She is just appreciative for everything in her life right now.

I know has been a lot since my dad passed and I just have taken the time to be thankful for what I already have. I wouldn't be here right now in this moment if I had not met Pete. He is just so creative. He is just so loving.- Alexis thought.

Pete takes a different direction home and he finds that hidden beach they would go to. He gets the dinner they bought and surprisingly, he had a blanket in the back of his car. Pete says: "Let's eat dinner here tonight." Alexis says: "Did you take us to our fave hidden spot?" Pete nods and says, "Yes. Let's enjoy our time together. After along day at work, being with you right now is absolute best." Alexis says: "Aw, I love you, Barista Boy." Pete says: "I love you, too, coffee girl." He pulls his phone and has Doin'Time by Sublime playing in the background as they eat their sandwiches and chips. The lyrics speak to the mood they are in right now:Summertime, and the livin's easy Bradley's on the microphone with Ras MG All the people in the dance will agree That we're well-qualified to represent the L.B.C Me, me and Louie, we gonna run to the party And dance to the rhythm, it gets harder...

They finish up their meal and head back home; Pete asks, "How has your summer been so far?" Alexis says, "So far, so good; got to see my favorite band, eat a meal by the beach with my fave person and try a fun coffee drink I was hesitant to try but it being created by you it tasted delicious." Pete says, "I'm glad to hear that! In August,I normally would go away with my friends Westin & Maya to a random beach spot in North Carolina- but how do you feel if it was just us going away?" Alexis says, "I wouldn't mind. If this summer is as good as it is now, I know it will be good as soon as we go away together." Pete says, "Glad to hear you want to go. We'll have to sort out our plans sooner than later." Alexis says, "This going to be the best summer ever."

Two months later...

August 2021

Carolina Beach, North Carolina (outside Wilmington, NC)

Pete and Alexis make the flight over to their destination (they didn't want to drive this time) and arrive around lunch time. They get a rental car and drive to their hotel for the week they are staying. They get settled and the first thing is grabbing coffee. Pete knows a spot that's popular around here which is Port City Java and they grab cold brews and something sweet and drive around to explore. They have never been here before so they look and see it has beautiful scenery all along both ends of the island. They grab dinner later at a local diner and head back to their hotel and turn in.

The next day...

August 2021

Carolina Beach, NC

Pete and Alexis awake this morning and notice the scenery outside their hotel room- it's beautiful! They grab breakfast in the hotel and then head back upstairs to head to the beach for the majority of the day. They just cannot believe how lucky they are to be able to have a vacation like this. Everything about this vacation so far has been great. Hanging with my fave girl and just relaxing. Nothing better; I just wish my parents could've met this amazing woman. They would've loved her just as much as I love her. Little does she know, I'm going to propose. I've had this planned since May. The ring has her diamond look she'll love. I already asked her mom beforehand; she's going to lose it.-Pete thought. They head back to change for dinner, and Pete asks, "How much are you enjoying yourself?" Alexis says, "Very much. I'm super thankful for this time with you." Pete asks, "How much do you love me?" Alexis says, "I love you to moon and back- as cheesy as that sounds." He gets down on one knee and she loses her mind and he says, "Alexis, will you marry me?" She smiles, and says, "Yes, I'll marry you, Barista Boy." She goes to kiss him and doesn't want to stop this wonderful moment that is happening right now.

"Did my mom know about this?" says Alexis. "Yes. I asked her; my friends knew about this which is not a surprise to you at all. I've had this planned since May by the way. Your mom helped me plan the ring out and since your dad is no longer with us, she's going to walk you down the aisle. I thought it would be a good idea. I just want to be with you for the rest of my life. I knew since day one I was going to meet the love of my life and I'm so glad I did." says Pete, leaning in to kiss his future wife. He didn't want this moment to stop either.

You're my forever, Alexis, and I cannot wait to spend more time with you even more. -Pete thought.
