Chapter 15: Of All The Gin Joints in All The Towns In All The World, She Walks Into Mine

The next day...

March/April 2021

Alexis drops by to see Pete today work at Brew Blends and he noticed she came in. He makes her the other springtime coffee drink she hadn't had a chance to try just yet- the iced orange sea salt latte with a almond milk. She grabs a spot right by the window and he walks over to her to bring her the coffee. "Thank you, babe; cannot wait to try this one!" says Alexis. "I hope you like it." says Pete, smiling at his girl.

Just her coming in today has brightened my day so far. Again, I'm thankful for her.- Pete thought.

He continues his shift and a few hours later, Alexis is still there and Pete thought she'd leave but I guess not. She stayed and continued reading her book she hasn't finished just yet. Pete asks: "Give me 5 minutes- we'll go grab dinner?" Alexis says: "Yes, babe; we can do that." Pete says: "I'm glad you stayed." Alexis says: "Why wouldn't I? I love seeing my man in action making creative beverages." Pete says: "They are creative, I won't lie about that." Alexis says: "I would've never thought about orange and sea salt together- it was good." Pete says: "I'm glad you liked that idea. So, I thought about something and wanted to run it by you." Alexis says: "Okay." Pete says: "Where I want to take you to dinner tonight, they have a movie theater nearby that plays classic black & white movies and tonight's happens to be Casablanca. Would you want to go?" Alexis says: "Yes, I would love that idea. Never seen a black and white film before." Pete says with a smile: "Cool. Cannot wait."

Pete grabs the rest of his things and drives with his girl in tow to dinner then to see Casablanca. He wanted to take her to see it because the band his name stemmed from has a song that relates to a quote in the film. They walk into the theater, get tickets, grab some popcorn and ICEE's because they want to get fancy for this date night out. He finds a seat in back row and they see the lights dim down and the movie begins. Halfway through the movie, Pete hears the quote and he leans into Alexis and begins kissing her. They miss about a quarter of the movie at this point. After the movie ends, they head home and Pete asks, "Did you like the movie?" Alexis says, "I liked what I saw of it before we began making out- which was a nice distraction from the movie I'm not gonna lie to you about that." Pete says: "Okay." Alexis says: "Can I ask why you want to see that movie?" Pete says: "The band of where my name comes from has a long song title loosely relating to a quote in the movie. It goes: 'Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine'." Alexis says: "I never knew that!" Pete says: "The more you know! It's a quote about love which is why I like it." Alexis says: "It's a great one you know."

They drive home, and see something on the table. Alexis's mom surprised her with concert tickets to a band she's always wanted to see in Portland, Oregon: Bright Eyes. She's never seen them before!

"Babe, this is such a nice surprise!" says Pete. "It is. She knows how complicated of a relationship my dad and I had before he died and she knows I could use a wonderful distraction right now. I thank her for understanding." says Alexis.

Her phone rings, and her mom picks up: "Hey, honey; I know that's one of the few bands you like and I thought I would surprise you!" Alexis replies back: "I appreciate it after losing my dad. It was a hard time but you and Pete made it a lot easier. I cannot wait to go in June 2021." Diana says: "I think you and Pete will have a wonderful time. Tell him I said hi!" Alexis says back: "I will, mom; I love you so much." Diana says back: "Love you, too, honey." The phone call ends, and this day couldn't have gotten any better.

Pete surprises me with a movie and dinner; my mom surprises me to a concert for one of the few bands I like listening to: Bright Eyes. I don't think I could've asked for more nicer humans in my life. I hope these days continue to get better. I just hope so!- Alexis thought.

"Well, babe; we got a concert to go to and stuff to plan out!" says Pete."Yes, we do! I cannot wait to spend time with you more this summer!" says Alexis. "Me too." says Pete, kissing his girl and not wanting to let go. "I just wasn't expecting it at all. My mom knows me too well. Music does make me happy." says Alexis. "I would have to agree with you on that." says Pete. "I'm glad you walked into my life, Pete." says Alexis. "Me too, babe, me too." says Pete.
