So far there were no signs of fire. Like usual.

Birds were chirping all around you, the wind fluttering the leaves of the trees. It was always so calm. The urge to sleep was difficult to ignore. Not to mention Al's uncomfortable shifting behind you.

"So, Al, still thinking about getting that tattoo?" You spoke, hoping to get your attention away from your lack of energy.

"Oh! Yeah, I'm not sure about the design though..." You thought back to a week ago...

"Ah, last time we talked it was a mushroom on your... waist? Right?"

"No, but thanks for the suggestion. It was the mountains on my waist that time."

"Ah, dang."

"Well at least I got a suggestion that wasn't 'oh no, you're too pretty for that gross, icky ink!' Like, no, ma'am I'm-"

"Gay?"

"Yeah! I mean what do they expect?! Do I look straight?!" They sighed, "But yeah, it's just bleh."

"Bleh?"

"Bleh."

"Man, do I get that." Looking out at the trees you noticed that an obscured figure was dashing between the trunks of the far below woods.

"Tree, di-" A sharp ping rang out, startling the two rangers. "Oh, it's break now. Is Fawn coming today?" They said, muttering out the last bit.

"No idea." Your head felt like it was splitting apart like poor Sandy's leg... no, his was obviously worse.

"But anyway, are you okay? I know we talked about you falling..." You instantly knew where they were going. "Wouldn't it be better for you to-"

"I'm fine!"

.

.

.

"Sorry." You didn't mean to shout.

"Al's right, you know..." Fawn was here. Her long curly locks of ginger cascaded down her curvy figure, held up by a black headband. With her signature olive jacket smeared with mud, pins taken off, she stuck her freckled hands into the pockets with a slight clink. "Nan agrees," The two of you didn't hear her approach, which is strange since she's usually the loudest. Al timidly waved. "I talked to her."

You looked back and forth between them. Maybe… "Three days…?"

"Tree!" Their expressions were hot with anger. Fawn continued, "That's way too fuckin' short! Look at you!" You should've figured this would happen.

"Four?" You suggested once again.

"A week, dumb-dumb." A week? That's ridiculous! You'd be fine with just three!

"Wha-"

"No buts! This is coming straight from the team!" Of course.

You send a pleading look to Al, who nods.

"A week is good. You need rest."

"…They'd fire me if not, wouldn't they?"

"Yes! You know what happened last time! Mx. 'I'm ok, I just got a small cold, nevermind, I have to go to the hospital in the middle of a shift'!"

"Fine, fine. A week." At least you'll be able to keep Sans in check. If he isn't sleeping…

"You better! And we'll check to make sure!"

"Wait 'we'?- Wait-wait, hold on!-" Al and I were tugged by Fawn down the tower. "Careful! Careful! Don't make us fall!" They said as they tripped over the last step, losing their hat. "Dude!"

Plopping their hat back on, Al continued, "You know by doing that you coulda hurt Tree as well!"

Fawn slowly turned to face them, "Um, oops?"

"Oops or not, be careful! I could've joined them in their deathbed!" You weren't that bad…

"Not to mention I can walk on my own, dummy."

With an exasperated look in her hazel eyes, Fawn complained, "Well I don't trust you! I'm not leaving you alone till you're in your house, at the very least!" Well, you hope Sans is awake enough to hide. If not… gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss.

I was running through the woods, someone almost spotted me.

There!

The tree easily hid me with its cloak of dark leaves.

Why am I here? Of all places, it had to be the surface 'pre-monster'.

Latching myself onto the tree, I tried my best to be still. At least until I'm sure no one is near.

I may be one for panic, but I'd rather know where I am at the moment.

First I was fighting, then in a bog and swept up by a hurricane, now I'm here! And in the bog, I couldn't even use my magic! I don't know if that shit carried over. If it did, I-... I don't know.

I'll wait until night to explore. For now, I just have to be careful.
