You mumble out a few profanities before opening the door to your classroom, freezing as everybody's eyes landed on you.
Totally forgetting about your new schedule change, you accidentally went to the class you would be going to if you didn't change your schedule. You didn't realize that until you were about to walk into the classroom, spinning around and bumping into a few people as you made your way across the campus.
And so you were late.
Everybody went back to what they were doing, totally dismissing you. The teacher just quirked her eyebrow at you, looking at her clipboard in hand before motioning you towards her.
"I see you changed your schedule?" She asked, fiddling with her red pen.
You nodded, shifting all your weight onto one foot.
"You're late."
"I-I know, I was putting books away. My locker wouldn't budge." You lied, looking down at your feet.
She stayed silent for a moment before continuing, "Find an empty seat."
You nodded once again, looking around the room as you tried to spot a empty seat. Barely any of your friends were in this class, but it was better this way.
There was one empty seat— next to Vance Hopper. You were quite scared of him, Robin and Finney used to tell you stories about him. How nobody sat next to him because the last time somebody did, their body was found lifeless the next day.
He was known as the toughest kid in school. Robin always used to complain about him, but you knew deep down he was probably just as scared as you were— and maybe at tinsy bit jealous that he wasn't the toughest kid in school.
You trudged over to the seat, praying that you wouldn't end up dead the next day. You should've just kept your schedule. You'd rather share two classes with your ex and be alive then be dead.
He looks up at you as you approach the desk, his eyebrows furrowed as he watches you shrugging off your backpack— placing it under the desk while you quietly sat next to him. You didn't look up at him once, if you can't see him he can't see you, right?"
"What are you doing?"
You grimace, slowly looking up at him like a deer caught in headlights. "The teacher told me to find a... seat?"
He stays silent, a somewhat surprised look on his face as he continued to stare at you. Growing small under his stare, you focus your attention on the teacher— in hopes that he would stop staring and leave you alone.
"You're that girl that got dumped, right?" He voiced, a small smile growing on his lips as your face practically exploded from rage.
You changed your schedule to escape Robin, and yet Vance Hopper was already asking you questions about him.
"I'll take that as a yes?"
"What does it matter to you?" You snapped, frustration growing. 2 seconds ago you were praying for your life and now you're wanting to bury yourself 6 fit under ground.
Vance let's out an amused scoff, raising his eyebrows in surprise. He leans back in his chair, his interlaced hands in his lap. "Was just wonderin', you were the topic of almost everything at school when it happened. What's your name again?"
You rolled your eyes. It's funny how Robin promised that he wouldn't tell anyone about the two of you separating, but apparently everybody was talking about you. You already knew though, all the pitying looks being tossed your way were just enough to confirm your thoughts— the fucker didn't keep his promise.
