Authors note: Hello you guys! It's been forever since I've updated this story but here is a short chapter to warm you guys up! Please bear with me, I'm a little rusty and have not written anything like this in a while. I promise it'll get better. I apologize for being so unactive. I started this account in my freshman year of highschool. I'm now going into my senior year. A lot has happened, I got into my first long term relationship, he cheated on me, I've been learning how to drive, I've been trying to get a job, and so much. Life has just gotten in the way. I'll try to be more active from now on! I hope whoever is still interested enjoys and is doing okay. 🩷
A few hours earlier...
Bruce quickly said goodbye to you before dashing off to his next class. He couldn't wait for the school day to be over. The end of the school year was quickly coming up and that mean't more assignments and more stress. And that homework assignment was just adding to it.
He took a sharp turn to his left, entering the bathroom without seeing who or what was there before approaching the sink and splashing water onto his face. He was exhausted.
"Bruce?"
He rubbed his eyes before looking up, spotting Robin behind him through the mirror. Bruce flashes a smile, "Hey man—"
"You and Y/N dating?" He says abruptly, glaring at Bruce.
Bruce falters, turning the sink off and turning around. "Wha—"
Robin interrupted him, "She cheated on you by the way. We kissed yesterday." Bruce furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, you guys kissed? Why didn't you tell him? And cheating?
"Uhh.. okay?"
"How long have you liked her? Before me and her were dating or while?" He asked, eyebrows furrowed. Bruce finally looks behind him, noticing Finney who looked uncomfortable being there.
"Look, I don't have time for this. I gotta get to class..." Bruce says, digging his hands into his front pockets. Bruce only saw you as a friend. If he liked you, he would've made a move a while ago, and he wouldn't do it while you and Robin were dating.
"Nah, we got all the time in the world. Answer the question." Robin said, slightly tilting his head.
Bruce placed his lips together in a tight line. Oh god— was he about to get in a fight with Robin? He usually was the one to watch the fights, not be the one fighting.
"Uhh... we just started dating?"
Robin slightly squints his eyes, "Yeah? Well, if you hurt her I swear to g—"
"Robin." Finney said, placing a hand on Robin's shoulder. Finney didn't want to watch his friend beat up his teammate. He especially didn't want Robin to get in trouble.
Robin shakes his hand off, clenching his jaw. It was true. You and Bruce are dating. You two are hugging, kissing, doing the stuff you and Robin did together. He saw it coming from a mile away. You always ditched him for Bruce, always talked about Bruce, Bruce this, Bruce that.
"I don't want any issues..." Bruce starts, slightly cringing as the bell rings. Great, he was now late to class.
"Don't do anything to her and we won't."
"I'm not going to. If anything, I'm going to treat her a million times better than you did." Bruce said. He tried his best to be nice to everybody but everyone's patience wears out eventually.
Robin clenches his fists, ready to pounce before Finney jumps in front of him. "Stop dud—"
"Don't tell me to stop! He's been trying to get with Y/N forever!" Robin says, trying to push Finney out of the way. Bruce's eyes widen, he steps back praying he doesn't go home with a broken nose. He's never gotten into a fight before and doesn't plan to. He hates confrontation.
Finney says something to Robin quietly causing Robin to clench his jaw and look away. A few more seconds go by before Robin unclenches his fists and looks back at Bruce. "Congrats on stealing my bitch. She's all yours dude." He exits the bathroom, Finney following behind while letting out a quick "sorry."
Bruce takes a deep breath, turning to look at himself mirror. What the fuck did he just get himself into?
Present...
You take a sip of your milkshake, eyes glued to the TV box as you feel eyes on you.
"What?"
"You know I don't like you, right?"
Your eyes immediately shift to him. He speaks, "I do like you, but not in that way. As a friend. You're my bestfriend, I've never wanted anything more with you but a friendship."
You roll your eyes, laughing. Bruce has never ever looked at you like that. Your guys' parents would even encourage you guys to date and nothing has ever happened. Bruce will always just be a friend. "I know."
"I'm being serious, Y/N. I've never wanted you like that."
"Are you saying this because I told Robin we were dating? I'm sorry, Bruce. I was mad he told me he broke up with me because he wanted to "date other girls." We don't have to pretend to date."
"I don't care about that. Anyone would be lucky to date you. It's just— Robin thinks I've always wanted you."
You turn fully in your seat to look at him. "Of course he did. He's just jealous."
Bruce laughs, taking a sip of his shake. "So, how are we gonna do this? Do I like, gotta walk you to class and stuff? What would Robin do?"
"Uhm... he'd walk me everywhere to school, from school, to classes, lunch... we'd always hangout outside of school too. We'd just be together every chance we get so basically me and you have to be attached to the hip."
He stays quiet for a moment, thinking. "I can get you flowers too, leave them in your locker and stuff."
You slap him in his shoulder playfully, "Awww Brucey you would do that for meee???"
"Yeah, dead flowers."
...
The first thing you see when you swing open your door is Bruce. He's come to join you in the dreadful walk to school.
"I brought you a donut." He says, holding up a white bag. He has a half eaten one in his other hand. You grab it, smiling and saying a quick thank you before skipping down the steps. He follows you in silence as he eats his donut, a sprinkle on the corner of his lip. You guys walk in silence for a bit, before he speaks:
"There's a drive-in this Friday. You wanna go? We can bring Vanc-"
"No! I mean, he's just not into those things really you know how he is."
Bruce gives you a look, raising his eyebrow.
"What?" You say, shoving your hands in the pockets of your sweater. You bite the inside of your cheek.
"Oh my god... does Y/N Y/L/N have a crush on the Vance Hopper?" Bruce says in a teasing voice.
Your eyes widen, opening and closing your mouth in disbelief. How did he know? Was it that obvious? What if Vance knew? What if the whole school knew? "Wha- no! I would never."
"Why are your cheeks red then?"
"They're not."
"They so are!"
"No they're not. Shut up."
"Y/N and Vance. Sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love—"
"Shut up!" You scream, smacking Bruce. He laughs, putting his hands up in surrender.
A shoulder hits yours from behind, sending you forward into Bruce as he grabs you so you don't eat absolute concrete. You cringe from the pain, turning around. You make eye contact with a random girl. She only looks at you for a split second before turning her attention to Bruce. "Hey, Bruce. You should be careful, I understand she cheated on Robin with you but she's been awfully close with Vance Hopper lately. Just warning you."
You freeze. What. the. fuck?
