<Blair>
I sat at the kitchen table, staring at the form. I questioned myself if the military was the 'most efficient way'. Dad is talking to Abel in the next room and I was left alone.

Abel left soon after, not even saying goodbye.

Rude.

My dad returned and handed me the breakfast he was making. I handed him back the form and he skimmed through it. "Mhm, I'll send this to Abel."

There was a long silence after, it was just him looking at his laptop and me eating my breakfast. I headed to my room and laid down on my bed.

What a morning, I thought.

I texted my friend that I want to go over to her house. "Dad, I'm heading to Liane's house, I will be back by dinner." I shouted and I heard him shout okay in the distance.

At her house, I told her what happened and she gaped at my story.

"That's so cool though." she said.

"No way, it was more traumatising than cool."

We spent the afternoon talking and I had to head home

When I opened the door, I saw my dad standing in the driveway. "It was getting late," he said. I hopped into the car and we drove home. I stayed silent and he finally broke the silence.

"Child, I know that what happened today shocked you, but it wasn't a bad thing."

"What do you mean, he could have pulled the trigger." I said, emphasising every word. He parked the car in the driveway and I was about to alight when he stopped me.

He took a deep breath and started talking. "I have been looking for the possible killers that killed mom."

When I heard him say that, all I could muster to say was a soft whisper.

"What?"

"No one knows who the killer is except you." he sighed. It started to click, why Abel pointed the gun at him and made me attack him. I looked at him in disbelief and he nodded at my realisation.

"You are our hope in finding them."

"Why are you telling me this now? Why not earlier? You knew that I was finding them but you didn't say anything until today." I said, almost shouting. "I could have made progress and-" he cut me off.

"We have found leads on killers." his voice was quiet. I turned to look at his face, and he looked away.

"We only got news yesterday that they are no longer in this city. We lost track of them and I was told to find them. That was why I needed to see if you are ready, I-I needed to make sure that you will be fine without me." his voice cracked.

My heart shattered, I never knew he did all this for me.

"Dad, who are you?" I whispered.

He ran his hand through his hair before switching off the engine. "It's late, go to bed, we'll talk about it in the morning.
