<Theo> I waited for Celeste to wake up, I mean I'm breaking up with her but I'm not that bad to break through text. I cleaned up a little bit of the mess and sat on the couch. Her place made me remember the times when I was in love with her.
I wandered around the house and looked at her shelfs. I saw her table and there were science notes everywhere. Seems like her dream of being a doctor is still strong. Sitting beside the bed, I waited for her to wake up.
After a couple of hours, she finally woke up. She rubbed her eyes and sat up on the bed. I walked over and sat on the other side of the bed.
"Hey, have you been seeing someone else?" She looked really shocked, eyes wide and her mouth open but nothing left her mouth. "So it's true, huh?"
To be honest, I expected it and Eloise had told me that she was cheating. It was just that I refused to believe she would cheat.
"Wait Theo, listen-" I cut her off. "No, you don't need to explain, I know."
She ran her fingers through her hair and she grit her teeth. "How long...how long have you known?"
"Three months..." I sighed and looked at her. She refused to look me in the eye as she fidgeted.
There was complete silence as none of us spoke.
I wanted to make this work, I really wanted us to work. But every time I tried to reason with myself, more reasons appeared for us to end it all. Now that the truth has come to light, maybe it's time to end it.
"Celeste, we're done." I finally said.
It was not that I dated her for just sex, I had fun times with her. However, she made it hard to continue. She would ask to take breaks from the relationship and I really questioned every time if I was at fault.
I tried making efforts to get us to stay together but she would never appreciate it. I bought her flowers and she would throw them away. I would ask her out for small dates but she would just look on her phone the whole time.
Over time, the feelings I felt before were no longer there.
When I was told that she was cheating on me, I felt nothing. I started seeking attention from someone else and we grew distant. Call me heartless or whatever but her actions made it to what it is today.
"And, I was a bet right?" this time, she didn't even dare to look me in the eye.
I grabbed my jacket and headed towards the door. "Theo, please wa-"
"Don't try contacting or looking for me." I expected it to hurt when I finally said it but it felt like a burden had been lifted from my shoulders. I watched as Celeste get teary-eyed and I just looked away.
With that, I ended my three year long relationship.
You can call me an asshole for breaking up with her after having sex but it had to be done. I closed the door behind me and pulled out my phone and checked the time.
12:00 AM
I sighed and headed back to the apartment. I dragged my feet as I walked, staring at the couple who were still out that night. Did I do something wrong to be cheated on?
I took off my jacket and threw it aside before slumping down on the couch. My mind drifted off elsewhere but someone's voice snapped me out of it.
"Where did you go?" I turned around to see Eloise standing at the doorway of her room.
"Nowhere, just went out to clear my thoughts." I lied.
"That hickey says otherwise." I touched my neck to feel a little sting. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.
"You were right, Celeste has been cheating on me, for three whole months." I could feel that Eloise would say things like I told you so. Considering that her instincts were sharp and almost always correct, it was my fault that I didn't listen.
"I would have said I told you so, but that would make me look and sound like a total asshole. Just don't think about her and just move on." she slapped me on the back, which hurt like hell.
It's not that easy to just move on and she made it sound so easy. But deep down, I knew that was her way of comforting me.
She returned to her room and I was alone again. I was thinking about the situation and somehow dozed off on the couch.
In the middle of night, I felt someone drape something over me. I woke up startled and grabbed the person's hand. In the darkness, it was a woman's silhouette, long hair and a slim frame.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" I would recognise that sweet voice anywhere.
"No, it just surprised me a little. Sorry if I grabbed your arm too hard." I rubbed the back of my neck. I don't know why she made me feel so jittery.
I looked at the clock in the living room and squinted my eyes.
5:00 AM.
"What are you doing up so early?" I stared at her workout outfit and it explained everything.
"I'm going for a run, I will be back." She didn't give me time to respond before leaving. I watched the door close and I slumped down on the couch again.
I need to get myself together.
