Nancy and Jonathan kept shouting at each other, Eleven excused herself because something happened at the Lab or something, it was hard to understand over Nancy's and Jonathan's shouting. Mike wondered where could Will and Cindy go and why weren't they back yet. Mike mummbled something like "Gonna see where my niece is." and left the room, looking around the restaurant. Soon, Mike saw the two outside the restaurant talking, he walked over to them, opening the front door, but it seemed like neither of the two noticed him, they were looking at the other side of the street.
"There you two are." Mike stated, Will slightly jumped as the two turned to look at Mike.
"Sorry, did I scare you? I was wondering where you two gone to." Mike said, feeling bad about scaring the two. Will, however wasn't listening as he shot his head back in the direction he was looking before, then turning back to Mike with a sigh.
"Everything okay?" Mike asked, Will was about to answer, but Cindy beat him to it.
"We saw Satan." Cindy stated proudly, both men looked at her in confusion.
"You saw what now?" Mike asked, looking at Will who seemed to have no idea what was going on as well.
"Satan, he opened the gate to hell before." Cindy explained, Mike looked at Will who seemed to catch on.
"We saw Billy." Will explained, standing up while holding Cindy's hand and walking back inside with Mike following, thinking about what the two had just told him.
Meanwhile Jane made it to the Hawkins National Laboratory, making her way into the meeting room, seeing the other workers there, sitting by the table, looking at her as she walked through the door.
"Doctor Hopper, it's been thirty seven minutes since we lost touch." Erica said, gesturing for Jane to go over, so Jane walked towards the stereo and Dr. Jameson pressed play.
"Hello... ame..can.. side.. a pro..lem.. ...thing is... and we... AAHHHH... HH.." was heard with lots of static, then beeping signalizing connection lost and the audio went quiet, Jane looked at the others.
"Anything else?" Jane asked, everyone shook their heads.
"Do you think they opened the gate again?" Dr. Anderson asked, Jane shook her head in thought.
"Play it again. Someone write it down." she demanded, so the record was played about four more times, before Jane sat at the table with the paper where the recording was written on, and a pencil, trying to decipher the message.
After a couple hours, Jane had rewritten: 'Hello american side, -something- a problem. -something- a/the thing/something (maybe) is -something- and we -screaming- end.' Jane stared at the paper, throwing her head back in frustration. She didn't expect the issue go all the way to Russia, but apparently there were problems too.
"Doctor Hopper, do you have anything?" Erica asked, sitting next ot Jane to take a look at what Jane had deciphered so far.
"Nothing we wouldn't already know." Jane let out in frustration.
"My brother's back in town. Does it have something to do with what's going on?" Erica asked, lowering her voice. Jane nodded, looking back at the paper.
"I need to try contacting the russian side again." Jane said, standing up.
"But, Doctor Hopper, we tried that, their communication had been completely cut off." Dr. Anderson said, Jane sighed.
"Anderson, have you forgotten I'm Jane Hopper, test subject number eleven from the '70s project." Jane gave him a glare and Dr. Anderson shut up, going back to doing the calculations Jane told him to do. Jane walked into her office, focusing on the face of Doctor Kowalski, the head of the russian side of the UD project.
Jane put on static on her radio, putting on her special glasses and thought about Dr. Kowalski. After the static vanished, Jane opened her eyes again, finding herself in the darkness of her void. Trying to find Dr. Kowalski, Jane walked around the emptiness of the dark place. Jane thought back to the very first time she spoke to Dr. Kowalski, pretty soon after she reopened the Hawkins Lab.
"Hello this is Doctor Yuri Kowalski, how may I help you?" a man on the other side of the phone said, with a heavy russian accent.
"This is Doctor Jane Hopper, from Hawkins National Laboratory. I have informations that you're working on the other dimension project, is that correct?" Jane asked, trying not to sound like a scared cat.
"A female doctor, what the America won't come up with." the man sighed, Jane internally told herself to not react, "Well, your information seem correct. Few years ago we had started a project like that, in Hawkins too."
"Well, Doctor Kowalski, I have information you also studied the creatures from said dimension in Russia. And I wanted to ask, is the reseach still active?" Jane explained her reason for calling.
"Why would you want to know, Miss Hopper?" Dr. Kowalski asked, Jane took a moment to calm herself.
"It's Doctor Hopper for you, and yes I would want to know. The deal would be following, if your research is still going: we tell each other all information we have about the other dimension in order to find out how dangerous it really is, afterall due to the gates opening lots of civilists have died here, and maybe even in Russia." Jane said in a calm tone, Dr. Kowalski laughed.
"Here, in Russia, only soliders and prisoners have been killed. But yes, the research is still going, and I am very looking forward to work with the american side, so could I speak to who leads the Hawkins National Laboratory?" Dr. Kowalski asked with interest, Jane kept herself from rolling her eyes.
"You are right now, like I said, Doctor Jane Hopper, head of Hawkins National Laboratory." Jane said with a confident smile, she could hear the doctor from Russia stop breathing for a moment.
"My apology, I thought you were just a secretary." Dr. Kowalski said, his tone indicating he didn't take Jane seriously. Jane rolled her eyes as an idea sparkled in her mind.
"Yes, now can you give me your boss to the phone, I want to speak to someone who's profesional and will take the situation seriously." Jane said in a calm tone, hearing nothing in response for a while.
"I am the head of this institute, Miss Hopper." Dr. Kowalski said, sounding slightly annoyed, Jane smiled to herself.
"Oh, with you in lead, I guess you haven't got anything more than we do, sorry for wasting your time, your institute clearly has nothing to offer. Given you lead it." Jane said, ready to hang up, even though she really wished to hear Dr. Kowalski's reaction.
"No, wait Doctor Hopper, I'm sorry about my behavior. Please keep the offer, I won't disrespect you again." Dr. Kowalski said in panic, Jane had a giant, proud smile on her face.
"I will think about it, to prove your loyalty please send your newest collected data. To show you acually mean it and don't just want our data, since you can't figure it out yourselves." Jane said, hearing Dr. Kowalski let out annoyed sigh.
"Sure, if I could get a fax or something." Dr. Kowalski asked.
"You could, but I'll charge you to my secretary, I need to go talk to people on my own level." Jane said, pressing her phone's button and soon Erica gave her a smile with a thumbs up before going to talk to the russian doctor.
Jane smiled to herself widely, spinning in her chair. Soon Erica came over with a huge smile as well, lifting her hand for a high five, which Jane gladly took.
"You rule, Doctor Hopper." Erica laughed, Jane let out a small laugh as well.
"The man was too stunned to speak when I was done with him." Erica added and the two laughed again.
"Wait, this is not very professional of us." Jane said, trying to keep a straight face, but failed at it as they both started laughing again.
