A month has already gone by and my life has not improved since Blake came back into my life. Owen is doing really well in football and I'm very proud of him. But every time I see him I catch a glimpse of pain in his eyes. I really miss his warmth and the way he made me feel when we were around each other. It feels like we've known each other for years and we just clicked so well despite the short amount of time we've spent together.
Everyday I have to pretend that I'm in love with Blake and everyone believes it, even Daisy. I don't want anyone to know about my past so as long as I'm with him, no secrets will be revealed and I feel better that way. I'm just trapped. But I need to move on if I ever want to achieve happiness.
So I set out for a new beginning, by getting a job.
I begin looking on my laptop for job availabilities in New York and I scroll and scroll until finally, there's the perfect job; "part-time web designer", I read aloud. "Ooh what're you looking at girl?", Daisy asks as she's doing her makeup. "I found a job opening for a web design company. I need to read into this job more." I scroll down reading all the details of the job and there I see, 'Parker Web'. "Shit! Isn't that Owen's parents' company?", I ask Daisy. "Damn, yeah it is", Daisy tells me. "It's okay Islah there's plenty of other people looking for workers, I'm sure you'll find somethin-" "Holy shit! The pay is thirty dollars an hour, to START! I don't care if it's Owen's parents, I'm applying right now." "Wow that is amazing pay for a student, I mean go for it if you want girl!"
I then update my resume and cover letter, and prepare for the phone call.
"Daisy I'm so nervous! What do I say? What if I say the wrong thing? What if they can tell I'm nervous?" "Islah, Islah, Islah, calm down. Just be yourself and be honest. Show them how much you want the job. You got this girl.", Daisy assures me.
With Daisy's reassurance and motivation, I grab my phone and call the number on the website.
The phone rings for a while until someone finally picks up. "Parker Web, what can I help you with?" It's a girl, maybe it's Owen's mom. I look at Daisy and she smiles and signals me to start talking. "Hi, is this Melissa Parker?" "Speaking." "Hi Melissa, my name is Islah Jones and I'm a freshman college student interested in your web design company. I understand you and your husband built this company together, and I admire your guys' work." Daisy gives me a thumbs up and I take a deep breath. "Well hello there Islah, Owen has told me lots about you." "Oh, he- he has?", I ask in curiosity. "Of course. He told me you're an excellent hard worker and you're the sweetest girl he's ever talked to." "That is so nice of him." I sit there and smile. "Well, I'd love to hear more about you so can you come in for an interview tomorrow morning?", Melissa asks me. "Tomorrow? That's perfect! Thank you so much for this opportunity." "No problem Islah, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Have a great day." "You too!", I respond.
Then I hang up and jump up and down with Daisy in excitement.
I can't wait!
