Chapter 2: Lockdown

SMG4 stood on the flight deck of the Churchill, wearing the visor from a Nintendo Ninja. He took off the visor and found the sun a lot more irritating than normal. When he put the visor back on, everything was fine.

Inside the ship, Meggy walked up to the temporary quarters Mario had been given and knocked on the door.

Mario: *Behind Door* Who is it?

Meggy: It's Meggy, I just want to talk to you.

Mario: *Behind Door* ...Come in.

Meggy opened the door and found Mario sitting on his bed.

Meggy: Everything alright?

Mario: Not really... We lost Chris, Shroomy almost died, and... I yelled at Melony...

Meggy: Hey, she's been on the ship a bit longer than us, she's probably used to it.

Mario: Yeah, but I'm her friend. People don't yell at their friends.

Meggy: What about when you trained with me?

Mario: That was different. I could handle that. Melony's basically still a kid. She shouldn't be going through this...

Meggy: Red, we've all been through stuff that no one should ever have to go through. This is no different.

Mario: Still, I'm starting to wonder if I'm cut out to lead.

They stared in silence for a few seconds.

Meggy: You nearly led us on a suicide mission and still managed to overcome that urge for revenge to help those people on the Intrepid. I can lead a combat team, yes, but a ship? That's a little above my area of expertise. SMG4; he's a leader, sure, but not a military one. If you can't lead us, who can?

Mario looked at Meggy and thought for a moment. Granted, he was nowhere near qualified enough to command a ship, let alone a destroyer, but Meggy raised some good points about his choices so far. Finally, he made a decision.

Mario: I'll be on the bridge.

Meggy: And I'll be in CIC, Captain.

She smiled at him before heading to her station and Mario did the same. As he walked down the corridor, SMG4 ran up to him.

SMG4: Mario! Mario! I've gotta talk to you for a sec!

He stopped in front of the plumber, held up his phone and... showed him a picture he found on the internet.

Mario: Why am I looking at a picture of a lizard?

SMG4: Because this is X's pet lizard, Riley.

Mario: ...You've got fifteen seconds; go.

SMG4: Okay, well, I fished one of those visors the Nintendo Ninjas use and tried it on, and it turns out it blocks a lot of sunlight. A lot of lizards like Riley are the same way. We took her to the beach one day which was a terrible mistake, she went absolutely crazy because she can't handle the sunlight. Okay, and I don't think those Nintendo Ninjas can handle sunlight either.

Mario listened intently to SMG4's explanation.

Mario: Did you try anything else on?

SMG4: N-no just the visor-

Mario: *At the Same Time* Just the visor.

Then, they heard an officer make give a status report.

Officer: *Over PA* Medical casualties C53, two men down.
