Calisa has been asleep for hours now, and no matter how hard I try I can't seem to wake her up. I haven't had any experience with Chiasie whatsoever, I've only read about it in books.

I take out my phone, dialing a number.

"Hello?" A deep voice replies.

"Fergus!" I shout, "You need to get out here as fast as possible, there has-"

Before I can finish my sentence a wave of magic hits me, forcing me to close my eyes. When I open them again he is standing in front of me, wearing a black suit.

He stares at me before looking at the bed behind me. His eyes widen and he rushes to the bed where Calisa is laying motionless.

"What happened?" He demands, his voice full of anger.

"She was hit by an arrow coated with Chiasie." I tell him.

He stays silent for a while before kneeling down and grabbing my mate's hand. Abruptly, he starts crying, his chest rising and falling violently.

Out of all the centuries I have known him, I've never seen him cry, except for when his son died, and only then, it was a single tear. He was mumbling incoherent things, holding his daughters hand, now coated in tears.

For what seems like an eternity his crying is the only noise in the room, making me want to join him and cry. I kept my pain to myself, not wanting to aggravate the situation anymore.

"You know Hunter, when my son died, his death was quick and painless, he was just gone. But Calisa, she became so much more than I could have envisioned, she became this beautiful woman who has a temper that can cause a war, the determination to always be better and the power to govern the world. I can't let her go like this, Chiasie is an excruciatingly painful way to go ." He states, getting up, "I have to try to save her."

I blinked back my tears. I had seen many of my men die, and family members get killed but the pain of seeing my mate in this state, and the fact that there's nothing I can do, hurts like a bitch.

"I need every single wizard you have in this school to come here this instant, as well as every mermaid. Calisa is not dying anytime soon." Fergus orders, taking off his jacket.

Minutes later the room is packed with people, to the point were circulating is something impossible.

"Okay, we are going to pass around bottles of water, every mermaid needs to shift. We are also passing around bottles that contain a bit of Calisa's blood and Tiolay, every wizard has to drink a gulp." Fergus instructs.

Tiolay is a potion that increases a wizards powers, but if a person consumes too much of it, it can lead to psychosis. Every student follows the rules as instructed, the floor now full of colorful tails.

"Wizards, have you memorized the spell?" Fergus asks.

A chorus of "yes" is heard.

"Mermaids, do you have your scale in hand?"

Another chorus of yes is heard.

"Okay. Lets begin. Remember, everyone needs to be synchronized, don't fuck this up." Fergus says.

They all grab each others hands, silence reigning over the room. Fergus gives the go and the enchanting begins. It sounds like a single person is speaking, and I've never seen my students putting this much dedication into anything.

Let's hope this works.

After hours, the spell is still being recited, every voice strong. Many have passed out, blood running down their noses but the people still conscious haven't broken the chain, keeping the hold on their hands strong.
