"You know, we weren't expecting you to wake for another week!" A doctor explained to Amelia with fake cheer in his voice.

Amelia just nodded and stared ahead.

For the thirty minutes she had been awake, the doctors and nurses had talked her ears off.

Annoyance pulsed through her veins as they ran countless tests, gave her numerous shots, and finally drew blood.

When she was about at her breaking point she finally snapped at them. "You have what you need, don't you?"

The doctor flinched slightly and looked at the girl. He nodded slowly. "Yes, I think this is sufficient for now."

"Fantastic, I would like to be alone right now," Amelia said crossing her arms.

The doctor only stared.

"That means leave. Please." Amelia stated.

The medical team gathered their things and left the room. Amelia curled into a ball of dread and just sat in silence.

She hated this.

She hated feeling like a lab rat. Any event that she caused, positive or negative, was studied. She hated being hooked up to wires and she hated needles.

Dr Brenner's conversation with Peter Ballard echoed in her mind.

'I saved you. You wouldn't want to lose what you were given.'

Lose what he was given? What did that even mean? Obviously, Dr Brenner gave Peter a job, but it had a deeper meaning.

Something was being kept from her. There is something strange about Dr Brenner's relationship with Peter Ballard that really confuses her.

Amelia was so lost in her thoughts, she hadn't even realized that Peter had come in and was sitting on the bed in front of her trying to get her attention.

"Amelia? Amelia?" Peter waved his hand in front of her eyes. "Hellooo? Anyone home?"

When this warranted no response from the bedridden girl, he flicked her forehead.

Amelia flinched back and looked at the Orderly with wide eyes. "Hey! What was that for?"

"Amelia, you've been in your own little world for ten minutes now. I've been calling your name." Peter laughed.

"Oh, sorry." She chuckled and rubbed her forehead. "What did you need?"

"Dr Brenner wanted someone to check on you. He originally was going to send Rachel, but we all know how that would have turned out." Peter smirked. "You really need to get better at making friends."

Amelia rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I made friends with you just fine."

Peter laughed. "People of the same sex would help you out."

Amelia pondered on what he said for a second then shook her head no. "No, I think I'm good with just you. Now, can I leave?"

"No. Not yet. They still have some tests to run."

Amelia groaned. "Ugh. Haven't they run enough tests?"

Peter laughed at her eagerness. "Amelia, you were unconscious for a week. We need to make sure you are alright."

"Well, I'm awake, aren't I?" Amelia mused and Peter gave her a look. She just smiled, "I'm alright Peter. I promise."

Peter didn't look convinced.

"Watch." Amelia threw her legs around the side of the bed and stood up.

Her legs immediately buckled and she would have hit the ground if it weren't for Peter, who was there to catch her.
