Chapter Sixty-Four: Do You Accept The Risk?

(Dig Dug, Pt. 2)

***

Alistair's legs were burning by the time he finally made it to the arcade, all but slamming his bike into the rack and racing inside. He could feel eyes on him at his sudden appearance as Alistair doubled over to inhale air into his lungs, but he didn't care as he looked around and tried to search for Cami, but couldn't see any sign of her.

Something in Alistair stuttered. Did she not come? Did she think he bailed on her?

Whirling to where Keith stood at the counter, munching on snacks, Alistair marched up to him and said, "Hey, hey Keith. Have you seen a girl with dark curls and wearing a scrunchie?"

Keith crunched on a Dorito, before the acne-riddled teen nodded.

"Yeah. In the back with Sinclair and Road Warrior," Keith revealed and Alistair's eyes blew wide, shock visible. Lucas, and Max were here, too?

He barely had time to process before Keith lifted the counter, an invitation to get behind it. Alistair accepted and was lead to the Employees' Only room, Keith opening the door to reveal Lucas, Cami and Max. All three turned, differing expressions flickering on their faces as Alistair waved.

"Hi."

As Alistair headed in, Keith gave them all a look and said, "Again, keep things PG in here."

Alistair's face contorted in disgust, and once the door closed, he muttered, "Gross."

He turned to face the others, joining Lucas as he said, "Let me guess. You're telling Max the truth as well?"

Lucas looked a bit guilty, but he nodded. "Yeah. You're telling the truth to Cami, too?"

Alistair nodded. "Yeah."

"What truth?" Cami butted in, making the two boys look at the two girls across from them. "Because Lucas didn't get to say much before you showed up, Al."

"Yeah, all he said was that Will didn't get lost in the woods," Max confirmed from where she was sitting with her arms crossed, a skeptical look already on her face. "That he got lost somewhere else, apparently."

Alistair looked at Lucas, before he turned back and said, "Yeah, yeah Will did. But, Cami, Max, what we're about to tell you... it's dangerous. If it gets out you guys know about it, you'll be in serious danger."

"Lucas already did his creepy warnings earlier, Al," Max said hotly.

"Well, I'm saying them again because I'm not kidding about the danger. Trust me, once you know the truth or lived through it... there's no going back. And there's people out there who will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden—or control it," Alistair said, voice as serious as the grave.
