Chapter 24

Peter landed at the scene at the same time Captain Stacy was pulling up. He nodded his head at the good captain and went to check on Miles who was pacing back and forth with his hands on his head. He got closer to Miles and held an arm around his shoulder. stopping the teenager in his tracks.

"Hey it's okay, I am here now Miles, did you find anything before I got here that we can maybe work with?" Peter asked, Miles just shook his head and gently shrugged Peter off.

"No I haven't found anything, Just I got here and the guy.. Pete the guy is messed up man, I was almost sick in my mask" Miles said before he walked out of the alley, away from the scene. He was struggling to hold it together. Peter watched as the body was covered up and taken away by the coroners on the scene. He turned and followed Miles and again wrapped an arm around his shoulder./p

"I am sorry that you had to see that, this job we have, it means we have to see things we don't like sometimes. I wish it was easier but nothing is truly easy. Miles, I am sorry for making you take patrol tonight... If It was me then you wouldn't have seen this.

"No Pete, it's not your fault, It's mine... I am Spider-Man, I should've been here to help but I wasn't... I failed you... I failed him and I failed this city."

"Peter took Miles by the shoulders and held them gently. "Miles, we can't save everyone. It's impossible for us to save everyone. We save all the people we can. Whatever happened to that guy wasn't good but you can't be everywhere at once Miles.. even with two of us, the city is just too big.

"I know.. I just wish I could've been here to at least help." Miles said with defeat evident in his voice.

"I know Miles... I know that all too well. We have been given a gift, most importantly we have been given a responsibility to use our gift in the service of others. the Spider-Man code is, with great power, comes great responsibility. Those words are what I have lived by for the last 9 years of being Spider-Man, they ring true to this day, after everything we have been through. Just know that your Dad, Your Mom and Aunt May and My Uncle Ben are proud of what we do."

Miles looked up at Peter and nodded his head, appreciating the advice. Both Spider-Men turned their heads as Captain Stacy approached them, it looks like he had just finished talking to a terrified looking witness.

"Hey boys, rough night right?" The Captain said, he looked tired and it was no surprise why.

"So anything you can tell us Captain Stacy?" Peter asked.

"Pete you can call me George remember? Anyway, I do. The witness saw what happened... Kinda"

"Kinda? Miles asked

"Yeah, she said that she saw the man enter the Alleyway, talking to himself about something. Anyway, she thought nothing of it until she heard a scream coming from the alley. She stood up and went to see what was going when she found the guy on the ground, dead.. as you could see earlier he had his face ripped off pretty much. The woman then screamed and called the cops... I am guessing that is how you found out?" George pointed his question to Miles?

"Yeah... I did." Miles was still shook

"Well when she was reporting the crime, she saw something weird. in the corner by a trash can. There was goo" George said causing Peter and Miles to look at each other..

"You don't mean it is Venom? Did he get another host?" Peter asked, already mentally preparing to go after the thing.

"Maybe but the goo wasn't black Pete, it was red."

"Red?"

"Yeah... red."

George shared a worried look with Miles and Peter.

"We will look for signs of red goo around the city Cap..." Peter was cut off by George's stare.

"George."

"Okay I will put out an announcement telling the public what happened and to stay in doors. Good luck gentlemen."

Sewers

"My we make a good team don't we?" Cletus said to himself, feeling the symbiote smiling in his mind.

"Yes we do... thank you for letting me feed on that guy, he was delicious." Said Carnage.

"No thank you for letting me watch a master go about his work... I have never experienced a thrill like that in my life"

"Oh Cletus my friend, there are to be many more but... the main dish is going to be Spider-Man.

"Yes I want to play with the Spider-Men and that cat lady too, I saw them on the news, they look fun... I wonder what horror we can bring down on them." Cletus said with sadistic glee.

"You will soon find out" Carnage then proceeded to laugh in Cletus' head, causing the man to break out into crazed laughter himself.

"But first, we are going to need some help to keep the others busy while I peel the flesh from Spider-Man's bones"

"Yeah? How do we do that?" Cletus asked intrigued.

"A good old fashioned breakout of course..."

Both of them proceeded to laugh once again, the plan was coming together and once they were full strength then Spider-Man and everyone he loves and cares about will be dead. Cletus will display the Spider-Man's head on top of times square for all to see. It was going to be glorious.
