-William-

I had never been afraid of my mother, but in that moment, I was. She was animalistic, unyielding. I knew she would stop at nothing. She only cared about the filthy human and my other son. If I could even call him a son.

I only stared at the ashes of my house I had burned down. I ground my teeth and release my ward. "Mother told you not to interfere."

Harland stepped from the shadows and sighed heavily. "I'm here on her request. You don't know who that man was, do you?"

I crossed my arms over my chest. "The man who asked me for the eyes? He's only an associate. I have no other connection with him."

Harland looked down, straightening out his button up shirt. "I knew you were too young to remember. Just," he locked eyes with me. "Stay away until Mother, Cain, and I can fix your mess."

"I am not a baby you need to clean up after!" I yelled at him. But my words were lost on him. He was gone before I even finished my sentence. I shook my head and turned back to the soot. A man blocked my view though. It was the man who struck the deal with me. I didn't have what he had asked for so I could only imagine he was here to exact revenge. I was not scared of him though.

"You don't have her eyes?" he asked in a gravelly voice.

I shook my head again. "It appears I do not. I don't usually betray my word, but this time you will have to understand. Now, I have things to attend to,"

Before I could make my leave, he grabbed onto my arm with an iron grip. His hood had fallen down from the sudden movement, and I took in his features. Scars and one eye missing. It came back in a rush. Faint memories of him flitted across my mind's eye.

"You're him." I felt fear run up my spine. The fear that Mother had caused was miniscule compared to this.

He didn't say anything. He pulled back his arm to strike, hitting my face hard. I landed in the soot, breathing in the black ashes. I coughed, trying to get it out of my mouth. The blackness of the ground was the last thing I saw.
