CHAPTER 8

Serafina sat in the midst of the more than usually distresses council.

“I still don’t understand how this happened.” Kefilwe said

“Was anybody pushed into a lake?” Kefentse asked Serafina

“No. And this is not the time for jokes.” She replied harshly.

“I honestly don’t understand what you’re worried about. We’ve taken them on once and beaten them, we can do it again as long as we are under my supervision.”

“That’s like saying just because the Yankees beat the Mets once, they’ll do it again.” Chief Paki said.

“Yeah. And I’d rather you didn’t.” Serafina said getting up and running out. She had to see Timilehin.

Lanre walked into Timilehin’s room.

“What are you doing?” Timilehin asked Lanre

“Eating an apple.”

“You’re supposed to be packing.”

“Why?”

“We leave in a week.”

“To do what?”

“To get ready to fight in the war”

“Come again”

“We are fighting in the war.”

“Why?”

“Cause the General said so.”

“He didn’t tell me that.”

“What?”

“Exactly what did he say?”

“That I should pack my stuff and be in Kihambuane by next week.”

“So he said you should be there, not me. Obviously they don’t want me getting involved in the war.”

“But why?”

“Maybe because-”

“Of what more value are you to them than me?”

“Ouch.”

“No offense intended.”

“But this entire thing is messed up. Why are we going to war anyway?”

“I have no idea.”

“How did Serafina react when you told her you were leaving.”

“She was fine with it.”

“You’re lying. She probably twisted your spine.”

“Why, wait, how would she even do that?”

“She has a black belt in Karate.”

“How do you know that?”

“Dude when you date a famous girl and you’re too proud to ask her about herself you Google her. So where are the bruises?”

“She doesn’t know.”

“You know she’s not gonna let you go right?”

“She has to.”

“Why would she?”

“She’s a queen. She understands the circumstances we’re in”

“She may be a queen but she’s still twenty and in love.”

“She’s not in love with me.”

“Well obviously you’re blind.”

“You need to go and pack, whether you’re fighting or not, we are no longer welcome here.”
