Abhinav's pov:
Silence was my companion as I walked through the penthouse. I could hear my foot steps and see my shadow following me with each step I took.
Now, I cursed myself for not coming in earlier. As it was past 11 p.m., Nisha must have fallen asleep.
As I crossed the dining room, I stopped at a place when I heard some voice. It was as if someone was arranging the dishes. I walked closer to see a familiar figure. It was a comforting yet disturbing sight.
There stood Nisha, setting up the table.
"Ahem." Clearing my throat, I gained her attention and she looked up, as if expecting me.
"Oh. You're back. Get freshened quickly. Till then, I'll reheat the food." She said and went back to doing something with the dishes again.
"Uh....Nisha, I wanted to talk something." I initiated but, she cut me off quickly.
"And I want to eat. Can you please hurry up?"
Dejectedly nodding at her, I went to my room and took a quick bath. Changing into a t-shirt and trousers, I ran downstairs to see her waiting at the dining table.
Whenever Dad used to get late while coming from the office, Mumma used to keep on waiting for him at the dining table ; no matter what the time would be. I always asked her the reason for this and she replied only one thing.
Whenever you would have your partner waiting for you at the dining table late at night, you will understand my situation. For now just remember that, it feels great to have someone by your side every time you get up in the morning till the time you go to sleep.
Today, I understood my mother's words.
"Even though thank you for waiting for me but, you don't have to do that. It gets late for me to return from the office." My happiness was one point but, I am not that selfish to keep someone waiting for me all along hungry the whole time.
"Hmm." She said and started serving the plate.
She cold shouldered me and not that I was complaining but, it did hurt.
When we started eating all that was in the house was the sound of silence. None to be heard ; none to be seen. There was not a sound of life around me, not the sound of bells or the sound of voices. It wasn't any of those. The cold marble ground seemed to move as my eyes drifted towards all the happenings, head throbbing as flashes hindered my sight.
All I could do was regret my actions and look for a chance to apologize. I wanted to shout out loud to her that I was really sorry for all that I have done. But, the awkwardness around us was something else to deal with.
For any conversation to begin what one needs is, most importantly, the initiative. And here, I couldn't build up the courage to speak anything else after my two failed attempts. All I was left with was lost appetite and uneasiness within me.
For a good time, I kept on playing with my food and decided to get up from the table.
"Please don't waste the food." Came a voice as soon as I got up.
I smiled at her notice and sat back and finished my plate.
After her meal, she looked at me and seeing me nod at her, she picked up my plate and took it to the sink. She washed both the plates while I waited impatiently at the dining table for her to return.
The light of the kitchen turned off and I stood up as soon as I saw her coming out of the kitchen.
"Nisha." Hearing her name, she looked up. "Can you please sit for a moment? I want to talk to you."
