Abhinav's pov :
Seeing her standing at my door, especially at this time ; I expected anything but this.
"Nisha, what happened? Are you alright?" I asked the most obvious question.
"Can I come in?" She asked, looking at the floor as if she asked the tiles.
Opening the door complete wide for her, I said, "Of course! Come in."
I could see her still shaking and her lips still trembling as she attempted to speak something. I saw her taking deep breaths as if trying to muster courage.
"I...wanted to sa...say something." I was pretty sure of one thing that she'd been crying, so her voice still cracked and caught in her throat.
"Sit down first." I gestured her towards the bed but, she stood rooted at her place.
"I left, you know. Just like that. I don't think anythi...anything before reacting. I could have said something else or would have behaved some other way. But, I.... I messed up." She said, still looking at the white tiles of the floor and much before I could react, she burst out crying.
"Nisha?" I asked. "What happened? Why are you crying? I'm getting worried."
As if my words went on deaf ears, she still kept on crying and crying. Not now, not never, I could see her this broken.
"Nisha? Look at me." When she didn't, I took her hand and made her sit on the bed. Crouching down to her level, I sat on the floor on both my knees and tried to say more, but then she looked up.
Her unknown and unfamiliar expressions were making it hard for me to not say anything. Still, I wanted to wait for her to speak.
She lowered her head, trying to find the words for what she needed to tell me. "I'm..... I'm sorry." She stuttered but, wisphered loud enough for me to hear.
"Will you please stop crying?" I uttered loudly but, was careful enough to not shout. "Please, just stop crying Nisha. And, tell me what happened. And please, be clear."
She looked at me with her tear filled eyes and wiped her eyes. She took a moment to respond, her head lowering again as she caught a lump in her throat. "I ..... I messed up. I shouldn't have left you there and I shouldn't have reacted that way. It was rude of me to behave like that. I'm... I'm sorry. I didn't intend to....to hurt you."
Though not very sure about it but, I had this scene coming up in my mind. I somewhere hoped that she would be feeling, though not needed, a bit guilty of her behavior.
Looking at her, I knew that she was vulnerable and I have to handle her pretty well at this time. Otherwise, one small unintentional reaction and she would misinterpret my words.
Taking her soft palms in mine and placing them on her knees, I played with her fingers for a while and let her calm down. The moment she looked better, I looked up.
"Nisha, baby, we all mess up. Once in a while we mess up real bad. Then we learn from that mistake, right? Though repetitive but, that's what's is the truth. We make amends if that's required. We move on to become a better person.
Literally everyone makes mistakes and if we didn't, we wouldn't learn much. And, just to clear, you did nothing wrong. Even though, I still don't know what you have in your mind but, I know you well enough to tell that you meant no harm. It was your reacting to the sudden shock that I gave you.
So be kinder to yourself, okay? Don't be harsh by thinking that you did something wrong. You didn't. It's just that sometimes the blow is so unexpected for us, that we get very much overwhelmed and don't understand the way to react. And, it's completely fine."
